I hit a block and couldn't continue. Every time I tried, one of two different things came into my head. Things that will happen, but I haven't gotten to that part of the book yet. No matter what I tried, that's where my head went. So I opened two new files and wrote those sections. One that will happen in a garden, and one that will happen on a drive home from the airport.
Both may need to be rewritten when I get there, but they're out now, and not blocking me.
"Why won't you pay the $8?"
Five months ago, before she died, my 91-year-old great-grandmother described to me how, while her mother was taken to the gas chambers by the Nazis, she asked her mother, "Where are you going?" and "When are you coming back?" She never saw her mother again. I was literally shaking while I was listening.
Now, when I checked Twitter, I bumped into two accounts, one "verified," and the other one lost their "verification" yesterday. I'll just leave it right here...
Every day I open my #Mona app for Mastodon and every day I still laugh because mona means pussy in Venetian.
Will I one day stop having a laugh?
No.

I guess it was bound to happen sometime, but I'm still sad. They finally tore down the most picturesque derelict structure in Georgetown #DC
I am seldom overtly political here, but I want to say a thing out loud.
A right to bodily autonomy isn't conditioned on being a rape or incest survivor. We must not create special circumstances when we recognize a woman's right to avail herself of family planning services or medical care.
It's her body. The decisions are hers, in consultation she takes with her doctor, and influenced, to the extent she elects, by her partner.
That's it.
Identical philosophy applies to trans folks.
I've hit that point in my latest effort where the characters are refusing to cooperate. They won't do what I planned for them to do, they go off and do other things. That's when I know I've got a good feel for who they are, because when I let them do their own thing, it reads better. If I try to force it, it reads clunky.
I just finished writing a short story about the frustrated ghost who cannot get its way because of cats.
I decided to name it "Haunted by Hairballs"
I had so much fun writing that story that I'm now seriously considering to figure out how could I get a novel out of it.

Yes, they do. There's a place near me called Hidden Valley, filled with ridiculously expensive homes and horse ranches. After a few years of drought, they were all paying to have water trucked in, because their wells stopped putting out anything but dust.
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
