@ScottSoCal agreed...just quoting author. But in context of the 'conservative mindset' today, it's not such a stretch to characterize the Reagan Era POV as about 'optimism & responsibility' as compared to the now Republican base: extremist evangelical, anti-human rights, violence forward, QAnon believing, lie-championing, & Russia-sympathizing/supporting.

Before I was here, I worked in IT, for a couple of software development companies. I got hired here to rewrite their QMS software, then switched tracks when that was done, and took an engineering position.
A science fiction geek, and there's stuff in space right now that I've held in my hands. I have people at JPL and Goddard in my contact list. *Nothing* can top that.
@ScottSoCal @Bette @actuallyautistic that's cool. I had similar, found computers at the end of the seventies and my interest became the path to my career.
The current Supreme Court lacks credibility. It operates in secrecy without a Code of Ethics, a majority of its members were appointed by Presidents who lost the popular vote, and Clarence Thomasβ behavior reveals a culture of corruption. There are solutions if there is political will:
- Code of Ethics
- Require disclosure of all gifts
- Require release of tax returns before and during tenure
- Expand the Court to 13
- Term limits

MIT has some incredible online classes (for free!) that you can watch. If he hasn't found them already, you could point them out to him. They call it "Open CourseWare":
"the responsible optimism of the #RonaldReagan party"
Responsible optimism? That's so breathtakingly wrong, in so many ways, I can't even begin.
Bit of a long shot, but could my good mastodon follower folk give me some boosts?
I'm starting work on a documentary podcast series about the future of space; renewable/sustainable technologies, commercialism in the sector and the public's perception of it all.
I'm hoping to connect with people who know space to complement my client's contacts, so any signal boosting would be appreciated!
I want to tell parents of trans kids under attack in the red states something:
This is simply horrifying. Like you, we can't understand how any politicians could stoop so low as to attack the most vulnerable among us.
You are strong, and we will fight for and beside you. And though we may lose these initial battles, your love and strength will help win this in the end. I know that to be true.
Don't let the mainstream media twist the narrative. They need their story. They need the drama and conflict. In their business model of profit over truth and the public interest, they are only in search of revenue-generation.
The 2024 race for the WH & Congress will literally be the race between Democracy vs Fascism

I consider myself lucky that I stumbled across my perfect niche. I work in an engineering capacity, in aerospace, where precision, process, and documentation are *everything*. It's like they created a role, just for me.
@ScottSoCal @Bette @actuallyautistic very similar here although now I'm retired I have space to try letting go of those and am using them less.

A post about routines is what flagged for me. For nearly everything in my life, there's a process, there are steps, they have to be done in order or things go wrong. I live on checklists, timers, and alarms.
@ScottSoCal Ohhh, Ashley C.
I once read a review where they complained that the chicken Caesar salad had too much chicken. If only there were an easy solution to remedy such a problem.
I may or may not be the one who started this review as a rebuttal to Ashley.
"First, if you read Ashley Cope's review, be aware this isn't a Volkswagen dealership. Clearly, she was drunk or confused. It's a repair shop."

Many of the posts here have mentioned things that ring with me.
Does anyone mind if I lurk, read, and learn more?
And sorry for the two posts, my instance has a small character limit per post.

Am I @actuallyautistic ? I don't know. I've never considered it until I started reading some of the posts here. I know almost nothing about autism.
I've called myself "socially awkward", and "introvert". Other people have called me "unaware", "difficult", "intense", "hyper-focused".
People often confuse me, I have no idea why they do what they do. I'm good with animals. Animals don't conceal, or evade, or lie. I'm good with machines. They work or they don't.
Good luck, stay safe, and Slava Ukraini.
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
