@bioluminescently @actuallyautistic Oooh thank you for sharing this! I will check it out! My book also has a list of resources that this website is perfect for.
Do my #ActuallyAutistic comrades consider themselves to have a "low" pain tolerance, but in fact, have been shown to have a high one?
@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic @actuallyautistics
I've been working on cars/engines since I was a kid. Any fantasy I had of a low pain threshold was ended by the 100th time I didn't realize I'd cut myself until I noticed the blood dripping off my hands, while working under the hood of a car.
You might consider what you did impolite, but I'd have done worse. I'd have said GTFO my house. I've lost all patience with the "conservatives".
We have a houseguest, and she turns out to be Right Wing. She's my wife's friend, but I could not stay silent. She had started in with J about the "Border Crisis" and J shut that right down, to her credit, but I felt it wasn't enough.
I told our guest about a fascinating book I was reading, that it was good, but traumatic. It was about the Mezote Massacre in El Salvador, and how soldiers trained by the C.I.A. to prevent leftist incursion, were told to frighten the villagers, and instead, tortured and murdered 800 to 1000 people.
Then I left the room.
She hasn't said anything along those lines since.
I think we have to speak up, even when it's uncomfortable or might be seen as "impolite."

It's funny how we let dogs into our homes/lives. They've got big teeth; big heavy paws with claws. They used to be dangerous.
But I'm doting on this guy, calling him Schmoopie face and Bubba and Fartacus. Diligently feeding him treats by hand, checking his ears, teeth and poops. Wiping his ouchie spots. Leaning over him as he sleeps, watching his chest rise and fall, listening to him snore. The only person I do this for is my 79 yo father. After heart surgery.
We probably have a lot of conditions for the people we let into our lives.
But dogs...we open our hearts wide. We scoop them up and never look back. We take their love and run.
One of the tough things about being Black in tech is that you can be outstanding in your field yet be treated quite poorly due to unconscious bias.
People interpret rules more strictly or differently than they ever have before just for you. And pointing out potential bias just creates new problems.
My husband had to wait for 6 years to capture this view of #TheNeedles.
Taken as the #moon set at 4.30 am last summer. This shot is only possible a couple of times each year. He almost had it in 2016 but it was slightly too breezy and the telephoto lens couldn't keep in focus.
It causes controversy as some think it's fake, I promise you that it is not. It involved much research, persistence and luck with the weather! It's the cover shot on our 2024 calendar #IsleofWight #photography
@ScottSoCal
Agreed. Aside from his power to invoke the amendment there was also the very real problem that the courts could delay its implementation just long enough to get in on causing a default.
@ScottSoCal@computerfairi.es @dougiec3@libretooth.gr The other simple fact is that budgets between now and 2025 will have GOP input. I don't love that, but that's reality. Biden didn't give up anything that wasn't a fait accompli.

Yet. No one knows what can change in the future.
@PatternChaser @Pathfinder @Zumbador @actuallyautistic the only thought i have is that knowing i was autistic didnt help make me less embarassed.
This one is special to me.
My memories are haunted by the many times my parents would ask "what is wrong with you."
Even after escaping those difficult years, sometimes verbal scars are the slowest to heal.

Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing.
