At a website I've been a regular for 10+ years. Another regular made a remark that surprised me, about her own son. Something about him deciding that everything he wanted belonged to him, just because he wanted it - and that it was because he was on the spectrum.
I didn't challenge her, directly, I just responded and said that surprised me. I'm also on the spectrum, and we typically have very black and white notions of right and wrong. She backpedaled, hard.

why do allistic people applaud their allistic friends when they abuse #ActuallyAutistic people on social media?

it's bizarre.

i've seen this a few times today here and it's super disturbing.

I just recently watched that, for the first time. Wonderful show.

After the last week, I needed a comfort movie. I don't care how many times I watch it, it always makes me feel better.

What do you watch to feel better?

A few weeks ago, I was very surprised to receive an email that my story, β€œTwo Hands, Wrapped in Gold,” had been nominated for a Hugo Award for Best Novelette. As is customary, the awards team asked if I wished to accept the nomination or withdraw it from consideration. Unfortunately, I’ve decided to choose the latter option.

The dangers of Australia are exaggerated by the media. The truth is that at least 62% of Australian children reach adulthood without being consumed by predators. Not bad!

@actuallyautistic So I went to my event today. As I was waiting in line to order at the counter, I noticed I was flat out stimming. Not stimming to music, not secretly stimmings. I was stimming in the open. I was tapping my fists together. The middle phalanges of the left fist were hitting the base phalanges of the right.

I went down to sit with my coffee and waited for my food to arrive, and I continued stimming. Whenever my hands were not busy with something else I was stimming. My forms of stimming changed. Sometimes I was tapping my fists, sometimes I played the imaginary piano on the table.

My paresthesia was much lower during this event. I think the stimming was actually helping reduce the impact of social anxiety.

Nobody gave me grief over it. I openly told people that I'm autistic. One lady told me her 12yo daughter is also autistic.

I know I stimmed like this when I was younger, but I don't recall the details.

I'm learning to drop the mask.

every month I host a virtual coffee chat for autistic entrepreneurs & social entrepreneurs to connect, network, share their ideas, and discuss their successes & challenges as autistic leaders in the business & non-profit world.
