It's a metaphor, people. It's not like Ron DeSantis is an actual twisted, hollowed-out sociopath, a former Gitmo torturer who kidnaps migrant children, claims slavery was vocational school for blacks, and pushes laws that promote #LGBTQ+ teen suicide. Oh wait.
Re: deadnaming
I explained to my mother that deadnaming and misgendering is like farting. If you do it by accident, and apologize, people will forgive you.
If you keep doing it, people will suggest you get that taken care of, maybe recommend you seek treatment, and ultimately avoid you.
If you bend over, stick your ass in their face, and let it rip though, then you shouldnβt be surprised people think youβre a clueless, hostile asshole.
(This is from an old post, but I wanted to keep it.)
Have I told you all about my stepfather dying? I canβt remember.
Anyway, itβs still happening. He was sent home from the hospital yesterday to die at home. My Mom has been lying to him (& herself), telling him heβs βgetting betterβ, and thatβs why theyβre sending him home. Iβm glad for him that heβll be home with his dog, and happy for his dog that theyβll be together. But nobodyβs prepared, nobody has any kind of handle on whatβs happening or how to deal.
I feel confused. As a kid/teenager, I always thought this time would feel victorious, but itβs not like that at all. I donβt feel βsadβ, exactly; more like disappointed and ashamed that all of our lives have sunk to this level, that we all outlived our βsuccessfulβ years and now weβre all at varying levels of failure. Nothing is going to get better for any of us. My sister and I are going to have to add supporting and caring for our Mom to our responsibilities. I canβt even imagine how thatβs going to work.
I feel like sheβs cheated herself and my stepfather out of consciously facing end-of-life, by assuring him heβs βgetting betterβ. Itβs all so weird.
This post is not looking for sympathy, I just wanted to update you on the situation. Thank you, #FediverseFamily.
Treason is very tightly defined in the law, and TFG didn't do it.
Again, to remind everyone to whom this might apply, if you're mad about the #trumpindictment because you invested most of your personality in demonstrable fascist horseshit and justifying a massive criminal conspiracy to end constitutional democracy in the United States, let me offer these solemn words of counsel: Fuck you.
Trump tried to overthrow an elected government in 2021, and may actually face justice for it. He's made it clear in his 2024 campaign that he will rule as a dictator if elected.
If Big Journalism won't finally take a stand -- in its news coverage, not just in its commentary -- to protect democracy (and by extension journalism), then it'll be directly complicit.
You can't be a mere observer about some things. This is one of them.
Maybe this is petty of me but I don't care
I think it's pretty awesome that the newest #TrumpIndictment is 45 pages. π

Mitt Romney feels your pain:
"Andrew Sabl quotes a 1994 interview with Ann Romney in the Boston Globe wherein she explains the material deprivation she and Mitt undertook in their student days, when both were so poor and jobless they had to support themselves by selling shares of stock that Mitt had been given by his dad: They were not easy years."
I gave up on NYT when they became apologists for Nazis. Not hyperbole Nazis, or hypothetical Nazis, actual goose-stepping, swastika waving, heil Hitlering Nazis.
"Look! Nazis! They pay their bills! They go to PTA meetings! They're just like us, but Nazis!"
