bigotry towards polyamory, mentions of similar queer trauma and -phobias
a while ago i knew a few (poly!) people who were adamant that polyamory isnโt queer, because straight cis people can want to date multiple people and then claim to be queer when they donโt actually have any clue what itโs like to be gay, trans, etc.
having just seen numerous people call polyamory โdisgusting,โ i really feel like this take erases the bigotry and bias that poly people face. like,
i grew up thinking i was a broken freak because i couldnโt do monogamy. i didnโt even know that poly existed. i didnโt know i wasnโt straight or cis until years later, but failing at monogamy was what 15-year-old rune wrote angsty poems about. doesnโt this sound kinda familiar to any trans people? any aces? etc?
and at least in the US, poly people donโt have marriage equality even in most places where gay marriage is recognized, and where trans people can legally correct the gender on their IDs / birth certificates, etc.
NOT trying to do oppression olympics โ different marginalized groups experience different struggles. my point isnโt that itโs worse for poly, just that how can you say that poly people donโt share the โqueer experience?โ for most of my life itโs felt like poly wasnโt even on the fucking radar. i assumed i would have to โwait my turnโ to fight for marriage equality and, ultimately, i expected to die before poly people have marriage equality (and still do).
so complete strangers call me a disgusting whore, tell me i have commitment issues, constantly ask me stupid questions about poly โbut arenโt you worried you or your partner will fall in love with someone else?โ (thatโs the goal, yes!) the same way i got asked stupid questions about being bi โbut how do you know you like girls if youโve never been with oneโ
so when someone says poly isnโt queer i kinda wanna do violence. stop erasing us, stop belittling us, and stop telling us weโre not welcome at the rainbow table.
[i donโt think this needs to be said here, since fedi is apparently a giant polycule. but i just wanted to get it off my chest. will probably delete after a short bit because iโm not trying to rage-bait either.
edit: though i say it makes me โkinda wanna do violenceโ iโm just expressing my personal pain at being told my poly-specific oppression โdoesnโt count.โ iโm a reasonable person and iโm good at listening, so if you have any decent and respectful information on why people think this and the argument for not including poly in queer, you really can share and i promise i wonโt bite your face.]
Joe Biden is my president, and he's been a great one. I'll vote to give him 4 more years.

What is your thought on this news?"

I'm the opposite. I break a task down into parts, and the parts I hate most get done first. Then I reward myself with the parts I like.
If you start off with something difficult, painful, or unwelcome in whatever way, you're less likely to continue because we tend to use that first experience of something to evaluate how the whole thing is going to be.
If you're starting off with the worst, you're setting yourself up for thinking that the whole thing is going to be terrible, of course you're not going to want to continue.

...able to do more to help.
But I can tell you this, my racist cop dad, the one who divorced my conservative housewife mother, which is why we ended up in section 8 housing... he is dead. And even though I was sent to live with him for two years as a child, his head full of racist stereo types and hate died with him.
Good riddence.
And yet, so many people who should know better are amplifying it, and pretending they don't know what they're doing.
Nothing shows the difference between French and British cultures than the village food deliveries. The French truck delivers a delightful chicken stew made with wine, the British truck, just chocolate.
It's the cocoa van.
Yes, I was taught that. But it's a rule I rarely follow. And I like it that way.

And you're helping it, with your Biden-bashing.
It's going to be Trump or Biden, and despite what you claim to support, you're boosting Trump.
