A final thought: Mastodon is what you make it. And, whether you intended it that way or not, the post that got my response on here came across condescending and patronizing. You're oh-so-earnest-and-better because you want to address Serious Issues, and the rest of us are just farting around with cat photos. Not a tone many will respond to with gracious welcomes.

I never had a Twitter account - I don't want to be spoon fed the things an algorithm thinks I might want to see, and I've been fighting my entire life, I'm old, and I only have so much energy for the fights that are most critical to me. Feel free to browse through the people I follow, there's some deep politics in there. But there's also light stuff that's just for fun, because something I need a fucking break.

When you see a post that's along the lines of something which interests you, click on the poster's profile. Follow them if they're discussing things you want to see. Click on the list of accounts they follow, and follow them, too. If the page comes up empty, that means it's on another server, but you get a link to follow to see it.
