I think this is misuse of the word "allegedly"
-The kid was shot, no question
-The guy said he shot the kid, no question
How is this "alleged"?
Memories of the funeral of my own first boyfriend. Gone at 27.
Iβm reposting this. This long poem I wrote yesterday is the best thing I have ever written. I love it so much that I want the whole world to read it. Please boost! And I would love to hear comments.
The Day We Laughed at Colinβs Funeral
The day we laughed at Colinβs funeral
The truth I saw was bigger than us all.
It was Billy who began it with that face
Recalling Colin mocking old Miss Grace...

"You're not the boss of me."
When they were doing above-ground nuclear explosion testing, they'd tell the surrounding population to go out and look at the pretty sunsets, as the radioactive cloud passed over. They later collected medical information about the cancer clusters in those areas and used them to develop modern radioactivity exposure guidelines.
Better living in the nuclear age!
@design_law You laugh, but this was a whole thing after WWII, during 'Atoms for Peace'. Super seeds for your atomic garden, anyone?
When they're playing your jams as background music at the airport, you know you're getting old. When they start playing them in the elevator, you know "old" is in the rearview mirror.
Extremely lukewarm take based on hearing a song over the airport speakers: The Sammy Hagar era of Van Halen is underrated. Did it hit the highs of the David Lee Roth era? No. Was it super-consistently listenable, with really catchy rock singles? Yes. FIGHT ME, or don't, if this opinion matters to you we're both old and will get winded after ten seconds of exertion.
So, now weβve got police going to the wrong address and shooting innocent civilians, and white civilians shooting innocent black kids who ring the wrong doorbell. The persistence of hate narratives and shoot-first-ask-questions-later knee jerk reactions show how absolutely dangerous an #NRA fueled gun society is. Their answer: More Guns! Because βguns arenβt the problem. People are the problem.β My question: So why in Godβs name would you give guns to the problem?

I moved to California in the '97 El NiΓ±o, and my most vivid memory was standing at my office window in Santa Barbara, watching another employee's car float down the street. He hadn't moved it fast enough to get out of the rising water in the parking lot.
We've already seen Tulare Lake come back, what else will happen with even more rain?
The odds are very high that 2023 will be the hottest year you have ever experienced, and potentially the most catastrophic. That's because the probability of a new El NiΓ±o phase starting within a few months is now pegged at around 80%.

I'll have more to say later this week about how bad things could get and what you might do to prepare. But for now, just be aware that this is no joke, we are genuinely in a climate emergency. π¨

"zero chance that he didn't understand what signing documents 'under penalty of perjury' meant"
*Without* accountants and attorneys, he's a justice on the highest court in the country. If he doesn't know what "under penalty of perjury" means, he has to resign.
To be clear, Clarence Thomas isn't sitting at the kitchen table with TurboTax. At this level, he's got accountants and lawyers, and there is zero chance that he didn't understand what signing documents 'under penalty of perjury' meant. These were nothing more than attempts to conceal bribes, mired in his firm belief that he'd never be held accountable.
Republicans should be the ones to push him out.
