I gave a training at least once a month, sometimes up to 4 times a month, in front of groups of up to 30 people at a time. I did that for 17 years. I developed a "trainer" persona for it, and it's been useful in other situations, too.
@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic Some autistic people can cope with public speaking but cannot cope in social situations. Hence being told β you can give a speech so why are you hiding in a corner at a Corporate social event?β
@ScottSoCal @nellie_m @jens @Vincarsi @devxvda @Cleopatra @actuallyautistic @joshsusser " . .even when we have explained the performance of all the cognitive and behavioral functions in the vicinity of experienceβperceptual discrimination, categorization, internal access, verbal reportβthere may still remain a further unanswered question: Why is the performance of these functions accompanied by experience?

I absolutely support this. I don't believe consciousness is a binary on/off thing, there are many degrees of it.

I've never understood that sentiment among scientists. Emotions are primal, they evolved long before higher brain function. Of *course* animals can feel fear and joy and anger and pleasure and grief.
And pain is even more primal, it's a basic survival mechanism.
Recently I posted that some libraries in southern Oregon were under attack. Racist, bigoted fascists were trying to infiltrate their Board so they could ban books.
Well, the voters have spoken. Our candidatesβkind people with integrityβwon the election. They won!
Small elections are huge. They mean so very much. Just wanted to share, because these victories have been few and far between.

Tomorrow after a meeting I walk over to the dealership (hubs is sick or he'd drive me) and pick up the car.
My parrot will never forgive me for tonight. If you think we're bad about following routines, you should spend time with a parrot.

@joshsusser @ScottSoCal @f1337 @actuallyautistic Lol! Yes, thatβs what weβre known for, isnβt it? Being so relatable.
I got a good price on an EV with less than 3000 miles on it. I keep telling myself the end result is worth it.
They've stopped now, and they're looking at me like I'm possibly feral, and not quite trustworthy.
@ScottSoCal@computerfairi.es @actuallyautistic@a.gup.pe Car salespeople really don't seem to know when to stop.
I did everything to make buying a car fast, easy, painless, but AAAAAARGH!
Financing arranged before I went in. No haggling on the price, I'll just buy it.
4 events of "Let me go talk to my manager" later, and I'm DONE. Melt down in the manager's office, and they'll either sell me the car NOW or I'm leaving. I fucking hate this.
I love my dog, for so many reasons but today it was connections...
Met a lady with two dogs as she passed my boat. Naturally we chatted about dogs.
Later we met again, more chat about dogs... then her husband's health, and her #ActuallyAutistic teenage daughter and the dog she got to help her cope.
Bingo! Long chat, lots of mutual understanding.
All thanks to my dog and the wonderful healing supportive qualities of dogs! π
It brings me so much joy when a dog or cat walks up to me to say hello. Seeing, meeting and petting animals is always a highlight of my days.

I have a smart watch, with a timer function. A load of wash is 50 minutes, a load in the dryer is 70 minutes. If I don't set the timer, I'll completely forget that I was doing laundry.
@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic
It's less "finally, someone shares my interests" and more "this seems to interest them, I'll share all I know so we can continue the conversation with the same level of knowledge".
... but then there's usually very little continuing of conversations involved...
@AutisticAdam @actuallyautistic
The timing on your post is funny, because while you were writing it, I was perched like a lawn gnome in front of someone's office door, talking about parrots.
