I only just today realized: I don't have friends in real life anymore. Everyone has moved away, no one can afford to live here now.
The only people I talk to are my sister, my niece and my coworkers.
To be fair, I don't even know HOW to be friends these days; I work and go home, sleep, and go back to work. There's no time or space to make friends, except online. I couldn't afford to be social, even if "being sociable" wasn't so uncomfortable for me.
When I "had friends", it was all based on how hard I was masking and overcompensating.
I'll never be able to do that again... and I don't even WANT to be able to do it again. That was a fake me.

Still, it's sad and scary to be so isolated.

I've got a research paper* that I'm almost ready to send to co-authors for comments before submitting for peer-review, and I keep adding stuff. I really need to take to heart this advice I got from a mentor years ago: "A science paper is never done. At some point, you just have to set it free."

*this paper is NOT ABOUT SATELLITES TAKE THAT BILLIONAIRES I'm still doing astronomy despite the all shit you're putting in orbit in my way.

Late identified #ActuallyAutistic humans often find themselves moving a lot - especially to new countries.

There is something about not being "weird" for being you, just being foreign. There is also an element of being able to shed the past and build anew.

I earn very little and must be very careful how I spend money, but I am much, much happier now. It was more or less forced. The business I was working at closed down and I could either take the business and workers over (no way), find another job (and face the same problems) or go it alone. I chose the last and it is good.

@RenoirDana @BZBrainz @audhd @actuallyautistic Yeah, you have to negotiate. I started stimming before my cancer. However, most of it was not visible to my ex-wife. I've always been stimmer seeking audio-visual stimulation. On the other hand, my ex-wife's ADHD evolved to make her avoid strobe light effects.

After my cancer I spend a lot of time in the living room listening to YT. She did not like the music, and she did not like the strobes that some music videos had. (According to her.) So I eventually got headphones and would listen to YT on my laptop. That meant that sometimes I wouldn't see the music video. But even when they are on the TV I don't always scrutinize all of them.

I'd put the music videos back on the TV when she was out of the house.

Alas, our marriage was already on the rocks (a good 2 years before my cancer) so that did not save it, but it did lessen the friction.

Risk their own operatives and intel officers for a guy Americans elected[*] to lead them who's solely interested in being able to pimp his own power and status?

Uh, no.

And that will apply to the current administration too, however much they might approve/trust the Biden admin (rightly or wrongly). Who's gonna hand the US government anything while knowing there's a decent possibility that Dumpst might end up as pres again in the future and be just as casual with the lives of their agents and their information as he was with those documents?

Sorry, nope. Not gunna happen.

[*] Yes, I know how the US election system works. Yes, I am aware of its flaws. Yes, I know about popular votes and electoral colleges and how barely 50% of y'all vote and only a quarter of the country actually *chose* Dumpst.

HOWEVER after all the ballots were counted and the soundbites faded into silence, he was still the duly elected PotUS according to your system (even if it's broken).

And he very well could be again (cf. broken system). And that's a risk that other countries have to factor in.
