"The U.S. has retired around 14 gigawatts of coal capacity, or roughly 7 percent of the coal fleet, since the start of 2022." (!)

Coulter is really leaning into that whole "I want everyone to hate me" energy.

You want legislators to define AI? Haven't we already seen this episode?

@rbreich I was a child when the Mississippi Three were brutally murdered by KKK. The awful details were all over the news. I was young, but remember the horror.
Growing up during the Civil Rights Movement gave me a thirst for justice that has never abated. I will never forget these young men and the many other women and men who gave their lives to ensure the right to vote.
RIP Mickey, Andrew, and James.
Heros.

59 years ago, white supremacists murdered Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, & James Chaney. Of them, James Chaney most symbolized
that era and geographical space. Such crimes against Black people were commonplace, yet often went unnoticed by White America. Every Black family had a story of someone who’d gone missing. But after Goodman & Schwerner, something had to be done. The racists were going after white people too.

I had a milestone birthday recently, which I was told deserves a frivolous gift. Today I'm going to receive a diamond, to be set in an earring. Nothing too ostentatious, a .25 carat, but D color, and IF, so a very nice not-too-ostentatious diamond. It'll replace my gold stud.

It’s a real tell when a cat like Musk wants to augment humans by sticking a silicon chip in their brains, but thinks altering humans by using their own hormone balances is unnatural and horrifying.

@danwentzel

I read a similar article on the CalMatters website and learned a couple of new things - the idea that homeless are coming here from other places to benefit from the weather and social policies is a myth. 90%+ are from right here in California. And most could have remained housed if they'd had $300-$500 extra a month.
We do have to do better.

Half of the homeless are over 50, and nearly half of those first became homeless after they turned 50". Our brutish and greedy society literally uses people up and throws them away in the name of "freedom". We have to do better. We need affordable housing and universal access to health care. #homelessness

Me: Is it really stuck, or does it come and go?

The tech geeks (I speak as a tech geek, myself) want to get into the back-end details, the average user wants to hit a button and have it work. Giving them the details is just confusing and unnecessary.

@panos@calckey.social @kisdra@mastodon.social @mjf_pro@hachyderm.io @tchambers@indieweb.social I've been part of a discussion about this today over on kbin, and the consensus seems to be that the fediverse system is actually a lot simpler and straightforward for the average user than it looks like when we try to explain how it works.

There was a literal person complaining that it was too complicated for them to use federated communities so they just didn't bother, all the while commenting on a kbin thread from a lemmy instance without realizing they were doing so.

This is also a benefit of installing solar panels on your roof. The panels sit above the roof, shading it, and shed heat as air passes over them. Your house stays cooler, and you don't need as much AC to keep it comfortable.
