Dear white friends: It's Black Friday when Black Mastodon celebrates its cultural heritage.
Follow the hashtag periodically today. I've already enjoyed music I haven't heard since I was a teenager; I've also seen some great artwork and bookmarked some reading material.
Expand your world with #BlackFriday every week. Boost Black and BIPOC voices as you do so.
And follow @BlackAzizAnansi who's made a great start increasing Mastodon's cultural diversity.
@ScottSoCal I completely get that. Especially living here in deep Red Texas. I always try to keep my work life and my social media life separate. Not only is it necessary for my mental health but my possible physical well-being as well.
This holiday season remember that the cancelled child tax creditβwhich slashed childhood poverty by 30%βwould've cost only $1.7T over the next decade, while the ever expanding Defense Budget will cost around $9T over the next decade.
Children are suffering and starving now because corporate bought politicians would rather by bombs than bread.
We can thank GOP & Manchin/Sinema for this cruelty and grotesquely misplaced priorities. A reminder that our standard must be justice above all else.
Love letter to #Mastodon:
Itβs weird how the brain (well, mine anyway) got so used to associating social media to doomscrolling, that coming here almost like a warm blanket on my brain.
I open this app and find incredibly smart, witty and empathetic folks who find each other by searching hashtags. What a concept!
#progress report
So almost 24 hours on Mastodon and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Excited to have almost 100 followers
Bluebird had become so unpleasant.
There are great people on there, but it's getting through the boatloads of bots or RWNJ's that was it's downfall.
I would liken it it to Andy in #ShawshankRedemption crawling through hundreds of feet of raw sewage to get out to the blessed rain outside. #freefromtwitter
Read this, oh...and get a hanky.
I have the game too, and now I can't wait to find all the hearts with their initials in them.π’
Hey,
Thank you for boosting other peopleβs posts so generously! So much good stuff. I have a great home feed! πππ
β‘οΈ Thereβs no AI/algorithm. Itβs up to us to boost! π
β‘οΈ Keep in mind to also boost #BlackMastodon, #Indigenous, and #PoC (People of Colour) posts. Make an effort to follow people with different experiences and backgrounds. (If you feel uncomfortable, sit with it, read, learn.)
When the loudness of the world cannot listen to your heart, the quietness of nature keeps its ears and arms open for you.
From the lake near my cabin in the wilderness of the Yukon, I am dispatching joy, hope, healing and positivity.

Books by James Baldwin, one of Americaβs greatest intellectuals, humanists and activists (he was also a film critic* and historian) that I highly recommend. Well, I highly recommend all of them including the one in my photo. Here are just a few of the other Baldwin books you must read:
Go Tell It On The Mountain
Notes Of A Native Son
No Name In The Street
The Devil Finds Work*
Another Country
If Beale Street Could Talk
The Evidence Of Things Not Seen

Great news!
In a landmark judgement, the Barbados High Court has issued a ruling that decriminalized consensual same-sex relations.
Barbados becomes the 3rd Eastern Caribbean country in 2022 to strike down discriminatory legal provisions and decriminalize gay sex, after Antigua and Barbuda and Saint Kitts and Nevis.

So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
