A couple folks asked why I share bios & links about women & underrepresented groups in science instead of “everyone.”

Well, we already hear a lot about famous men like Einstein & Darwin. But there are so many wonderful stories of other amazing individuals who have made significant contributions in #science #tech & beyond but haven’t been celebrated as widely.

And when we don’t see ourselves in the #history of STEM, we may not recognize we are capable of great achievements too.

Just heard my husband telling the people on his work call that he wouldn’t be okay with any protocol that forced anyone to risk their health by exposing themselves to Covid and I couldn’t be more proud.

When I get annoyed with other drivers, I call them by their vehicle, like, “Oh you’re in a fucking hurry, aren’t you, Mr. Ambulance!”

@ScottSoCal @Jaden2 he also largely agreed with Ghandi that widespread “civil” disobedience evaporates the power of the powerful. The minority can’t rule without the consent/obedience of the masses

@SusanHR @Jaden2 @ScottSoCal indeed, the wounds have not healed.. my country Kenya has only been politically independent for 60 years, and so much of the colonial past influences everything we do today

@ScottSoCal @Jaden2 sort of but what gets left out on King side is the misunderstanding/oversimplification of nonviolence, which isn’t abt hugs & singing kumbaya. It’s a COERCION tactic. Read MLKs “Fill The Jails,” which explores how the goal of nonviolent direct action is abt gumming up the system to bring it to a screeching halt. There is a Machiavellian power move involved. Non violent direct action is FORCE (minus military weapons). Gene Sharp has tons on this
