On my way to Oslo to hang out outside Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

In support of Sámi land rights.

Sámi rights are threatened throughout the Nordic Countries.

Land theft and suppression of self-determination.

We're still here.

@DangerousFruit @djwfyi I would have to say yes, as I am extremely good at being an occasional extrovert to the point where people who haven’t known me for long look at me like I am lying when I say I am an introvert. They have only seen me when I am “ on” which is only .2% of my life.

The Mormon Church is being fined 5 million because it hid a 32 billion dollar investment fund. This was not accidental. The SEC proved that both the investment firm and church went to great lengths to knowingly hide these assets. For the folks playing along at home, that’s a fine of 0.016% on the investment. Imagine lying on your taxes and you hid an extra $100K offshore and the IRS said “No sweat, pay us $15.63.” If there are no other repercussions, that’s not a fine, that’s encouragement.

Ukraine, we are with you.

We have been with you in this existential fight from the beginning.

You have become the centre of our continent.

The place where our values are upheld. Where our freedom is defended. Where the future of Europe is written.

Слава Україні

Starting to think it might be too late to become a nun.

This argues that - because of the "perils of a public good in private hands" - not just discussion should move from twitter to mastodon, scholarly institutions should now also create instances in the fediverse that make publicly available: papers, data & code.

The white man, who got his trust fund money from owning an Emerald mine in Africa, would like to inform you that...

Did any Star Wars fans out there know Yoda has a last name?

It's Layheehoo.

The unfortunate result of a young bulb raised in a bad environment.

Perhaps it is time to leave atrocious chemical disasters in the lobbies and on the lawns of hedge fund managers.

Garrett T. Morgan invented the first gas mask. He and a team of volunteers used his invention to rescue 32 workers trapped in a gas-filled tunnel 250 feet under Lake Erie. Garrett T. Morgan also invented America’s first traffic light. #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackMastodon

Wow. Just finished reading The Terraformers, by @annaleen, and it's amazing. I can't properly describe the #book right now, so please take a look online or even in a real bookstore, depending on where do you live.

I don't usually mention the many great #SciFi and occasionally high #fantasy books I read. Perhaps I'm making an exception because it was only here on #Mastodon that I found out about the author and the book, *probably* via the great @marthawells.

Putin is aware of the discontent of the Russian people who have been affected by the war in Ukraine, so he is avoiding them out of fear. He is now in a state of panic, desperately trying to find a way to win back the support of the people. This is according to former head of the Moscow FSB Yevgeny Savostyanov.

One thing that's being lost in a lot of the coverage related to Scott Adams' racist rant is that he tried to present (the 40-whatever percent of) black people (who participated in this poll) as being outrageous for objecting to that phrase "it's okay to be white."

And if it's a phrase you've never heard before, maybe you take it at face value and go, "Oh, so now they don't even think it's okay for white people to exist?!"

But it's deeper than that. 1/

So I did an #introduction post a while back, but I deleted it because it wasn’t hilarious or absurd. But now I’ve learned you can just be yourself, and that no one on Mastodon is going to make fun of you for having had the phrase “Whoopity Slap” emblazoned across the back of your letter jacket—the one that you earned for your two years on the staffs of both the newspaper and the literary magazine.

Even back then I was proto-tooting by submitting brilliant aphorisms to lit mag like “You can never have too many bagels” and “IOU stands for Immediately Obsolete Underwear”. You should have seen me and my friends celebrating our own high school theme week with special events like “International Alter-Ego Day” and “International Goth Day”. High school was a shitshow but my friends were the best support I could have hoped for given I was literally the only out person at my school. This was in the late 90s.

But enough of my high school panegyrics. Tell me something about your formative years.

I'll make an #introduction post like the rest of the cool kids. 😀

Lightning round. Good: democracy, equal rights, the #LGBTQ community (especially trans kids). Bad: fascism, the patriarchy, billionaires, book bans.
