I wanted to see if ChatGPT could put me out of the job, so I asked it to write a funny fake fact. To my surprise, it literally just plagiarized one of my own facts. Nearly word for word. I'd say my position remains safe for now.

I do not say this lightly: the people organizing the push to eradicate trans people from public life are white Christian nationalists, who are the intellectual descendants of the Nazis--who were also, among other things, white Christian nationalists. Yes, this includes Rowling who openly associates with these people.

This is commonly known in trans communities but many otherwise well-meaning cis people still think this is hyperbole. It is not.

@mekkaokereke It is important to understand that gender equality does not mean that men are giving up nice things. Patriarchy hurts majority of men as well, just in different ways. Many "male privileges" are upon closer examination no privileges at all.
Patriarhcal roles reserved for men are quite narrow and make their lives less safe and more lonely.

The discrepancy in how the label โ€œactivistโ€ is applied in mainstream media reporting and commentary is really striking - and this is true for all different kinds of issues: Conservatives are concerned parents or citizens - people on the Left or perceived as progressives are โ€œactivists.โ€

People storming school board meetings are โ€œconcerned parents,โ€ which implies that their motives are genuine and just, basically shielding their โ€œconcernsโ€ from political scrutiny; but students protesting a racist speaker are always โ€œactivists,โ€ never โ€œconcerned young people.โ€

Seeing protests in France, my initial thought was, "Man, the French are protesting AGAIN." But then I realized they protest so often because they are SUCCESSFUL at it, unlike in Western countries where our voices are often ignored. They are successful in implementing longstanding social and legislative changes. What's the difference?

I did a deep dive.

1๏ธโƒฃ In satellite images, my team spied some interesting curved rock beds in this area, which may have come from a meandering river.
2๏ธโƒฃ #MarsHelicopter flew over the area to scout it out.

Howโ€™s that for teamwork?

Throwback to one of the wildest (and luckiest) shots I've ever taken.

On approach into London several years back, the position of the sun & clouds created a halo around our plane's shadow as the sun highlighted the Tower Bridge. I'm still kicking myself for using my iPhone instead of my good camera, but I didn't expect the clouds to part. Lesson learned! ๐Ÿ˜’ ๐Ÿ˜†

86% of fentanyl convictions at the US/Mexico border are of US CITIZENS, not immigrants.

Like this guy. One of the Charlottesville tiki torch Nazis. Caught smuggling 33 pounds of fentanyl at the border.

THIS is who's smuggling fentanyl.

Charlie was howling about us being gone again. So we used the audio on the cam (see thread) to try to reassure him. His ears while he listened! But it worked, he lay down!

The harm Fox has caused to America, viewers, employees... is unfathomable. Punitive damages should be in the BILLIONS$: Filings have shown that Foxโ€™s top execs admonished members of the news team for their โ€œdisrespectโ€ to the networkโ€™s audience. Never underestimate the resiliency of the gay community. We took the antagonistic bullying term โ€œqueerbaitโ€ and turned it into an entire sub genre of porn.

Wow. In 24 hours, we have gone from zero to 4.4K followers, thatโ€˜s crazy. Thank you for a warm welcome and excellent tips. I gave up on replying to all of you after someone pointed out that I was spamming thousands of people โ€“ sorry! Also, please do not read too much into it if we do not respond or take a long time responding, we are a busy bunch and may simply sometimes miss your post or messages. Mastodon allows long posts so I am taking advantage of that, so here are a few things that you may โ€“ or may not โ€“ want to know.

โ€”Who are we?โ€”

Research in the Icelandic Vision Lab (visionlab.is) focuses on all things visual, with a major emphasis on higher-level or โ€œcognitiveโ€ aspects of visual perception. It is co-run by five Principal Investigators: รrni Gunnar รsgeirsson, Sabrina Hansmann-Roth, รrni Kristjรกnsson, Inga Marรญa ร“lafsdรณttir, and Heida Maria Sigurdardottir. Here on Mastodon, you will most likely be interacting with me โ€“ Heida โ€“ but other PIs and potentially other lab members (visionlab.is/people) may occasionally also post here as this is a joint account. If our posts are stupid and/or annoying, I will however almost surely be responsible!

โ€”What do we do?โ€”

Current and/or past research at IVL has looked at several visual processes, including #VisualAttention , #EyeMovements , #ObjectPerception , #FacePerception , #VisualMemory , #VisualStatistics , and the role of #Experience / #Learning effects in #VisualPerception . Some of our work concerns the basic properties of the workings of the typical adult #VisualSystem . We have also studied the perceptual capabilities of several unique populations, including children, synesthetes, professional athletes, people with anxiety disorders, blind people, and dyslexic readers. We focus on #BehavioralMethods but also make use of other techniques including #Electrophysiology , #EyeTracking , and #DeepNeuralNetworks

โ€”Why are we here?โ€”

We are mostly here to interact with other researchers in our field, including graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and principal investigators. This means that our activity on Mastodon may sometimes be quite niche. This can include boosting posts from others on research papers, conferences, or work opportunities in specialized fields, partaking in discussions on debates in our field, data analysis, or the scientific review process. Science communication and outreach are hugely important, but this account is not about that as such. So we take no offence if that means that you will unfollow us, that is perfectly alright :)

โ€”But will there still sometimes be stupid memes as promised?โ€”

Yes. They may or may not be funny, but they will be stupid.

After years of marriage you can sense your partnerโ€™s eye rolls without actually seeing them. Thatโ€™s love right there. โค๏ธ

No, I'm pretty sure my cardiologist said he wants to do an Instagram.

Watching "respectable" cis gays/lesbians turn against trans people is the typical "pulling up the ladder behind you" bullshit.

What's wild is that they don't think they would be next. They're coming for all of us. All of us.
