We are sad to note the passing of civil rights activist Kevin Alexander Gray, who died at his home in Columbia, South Carolina, on Tuesday March 7. Gray was a longtime supporter and adviser to The Progressive.

The year is 2029.
A general election is round the corner.
A racist shivers in his unheated house eating cold turnip soup. He got it from a food bank. He wanted tomato soup.
It's his last meal in his house as tomorrow, he's being evicted. He's unable to pay his mortgage. He works two jobs but doesn't get paid much.
But he's happy.
The Tories said they would stop the boats.
They didn't.
But they said they would.
They'll probably do it next time.
So he'll vote for them again.
@martychan Marty I was duped by #Mastodon , I thought it would be just a bunch of us old fossils (hence the name). But I love it here, one of my original Toots was that it is Canadian Twitter, kind, polite but not afraid to have a good discussion over a cold beer.
I am totally new to @Mastodon in terms of its usage, but I am totally aware of how it works.
My last few days experience:
1. I am totally stunned by its utility, freedom and control.
2. Instances/Servers - decentralisation has always been a key issue on other social networks.
3. I have lots of followers on Twitter, and I am ready to ditch that as a Twitter algorithm is becoming ad-centric and illogical shadow banning.
4. Though it has been years since the Mastodon existed, I must say one thing it will take a few more years to be fully adopted in the mainstream as the majority is unaware about centralized and decentralisation of tech and ownership of their content.
5. The Mastodon community is amazing. No doubt why it's trending on other platforms
Lastly, I would like to say, I will be moving to this platform permanently and utilize every functionality that it possesses.
Who is more of a threat to kids? Drag Queens or Youth Pastors?
Shameless self-promotion time. Occasionally I'll get inspired and write a sci-fi short story and post it to Reddit. I would appreciate it if you read it and left constructive feedback. Thank you.
I do not say this lightly: the people organizing the push to eradicate trans people from public life are white Christian nationalists, who are the intellectual descendants of the Nazis--who were also, among other things, white Christian nationalists. Yes, this includes Rowling who openly associates with these people.
This is commonly known in trans communities but many otherwise well-meaning cis people still think this is hyperbole. It is not.
@mekkaokereke It is important to understand that gender equality does not mean that men are giving up nice things. Patriarchy hurts majority of men as well, just in different ways. Many "male privileges" are upon closer examination no privileges at all.
Patriarhcal roles reserved for men are quite narrow and make their lives less safe and more lonely.
The discrepancy in how the label βactivistβ is applied in mainstream media reporting and commentary is really striking - and this is true for all different kinds of issues: Conservatives are concerned parents or citizens - people on the Left or perceived as progressives are βactivists.β

People storming school board meetings are βconcerned parents,β which implies that their motives are genuine and just, basically shielding their βconcernsβ from political scrutiny; but students protesting a racist speaker are always βactivists,β never βconcerned young people.β
Seeing protests in France, my initial thought was, "Man, the French are protesting AGAIN." But then I realized they protest so often because they are SUCCESSFUL at it, unlike in Western countries where our voices are often ignored. They are successful in implementing longstanding social and legislative changes. What's the difference?
I did a deep dive.

1οΈβ£ In satellite images, my team spied some interesting curved rock beds in this area, which may have come from a meandering river.
2οΈβ£ #MarsHelicopter flew over the area to scout it out.
3οΈβ£ Now Iβm here doing science up close.
Howβs that for teamwork?
