One of the occupational hazards of being an urban planner is that you’re constantly being critical of the built environment around you.

While out and about, all I think about is access management plans, lack of pedestrian and bicycle facilities, crappy or non-existent transit facilities, single-use buildings in multi-use zones, disappointment in the lack of residential density, Americans’ distaste for residential density, unchecked code violations in wealthy neighborhoods, low quality building materials, huge parking lots, impervious surfaces and flood plains, crappy landscaping, HOAs and restrictive covenants, unsafe routes to school, lack of healthy food options, poor parks and other green spaces, NIMBYs, and on and on.

Sometimes I wish I would’ve gone into something a little more micro, like landscaping or plumbing.

What is the past tense of gatekeeping? Is it gatekept? It cannot be gatekeeped. I refuse to accept that.

Normally, I spend a fair amount of time making Sunday dinner. Which may or may not be eaten by the rest of the family who has been laying around like sloths with tape worms all day... So, today I just ate a bunch of snacks and will not be cooking dinner. Ball is in your court, family. Gonna go binge something on Netflix.

Nearly everyone in german was a Nazi at that time!

I'm glad that I hadn't to wear this shitty brown Uniform of Hitlerjugend.

I saw this Uniform in real life when on vacation to Chicago. There was a propaganda booth of the NSDAP-AO in downtown Chicago.

It happened I stumbled and ruined their table...

Booty and Butt mean the same thing.

Dial and Call can mean basically the same thing.

Butt Dial and Booty Call definitely do not mean the same thing.

If this is the year you finally started to pay attention, well, then you aren’t really talking about the history of fascism, but about the history of when it finally started bothering you enough that you could no longer ignore it.

And you’re probably white, too.

Like, it was in 2012 that Golden Dawn in Greece got 7% of the vote, well before they entered the European Parliament in 2019.

Fascism got Trump elected, in 2016, and, if you weren’t so busy calling those of us who were warning you well before that β€˜alarmist’, that might have gone differently.

Fascism killed Heather Heyer in Charslottesville, in 2017.

Our Western narrative around the defeat of fascism is incomplete at best, and actively misleading at its worst. It is a myth we tell ourselves, a history written by victors who themselves were no better. They just happened to be on the side that won.

Look up General Patton. Look up Winston Churchill. Look up the histories of the people who were freed from the camps, and then put right back in.

If your history of fascism puts its current resurgence in 2023, you’re either being ignorant, or dishonest.

I have receipts that go back way further than that, and it’s not just me. The alarm has been sounding for ages now.

I just saw a toot that talked about β€œwhen they write the history of the rise of fascism in 2023”, and while this isn’t about that specific person, and thus not a subtoot, I feel obligated to obliterate that statement.

Firstly, because β€˜rise’ is a misnomer. It is part of the lie we tell ourselves. Fascism never went away, it just sort of faded into the background as the jackbooted thugs shed their uniforms, and merged back into society.

Secondly, if we are talking about anything that could perhaps be called a β€˜resurgence’, and you have been paying attention, you know that this has been going on for years.

Decades.

From the days when History channel was still doing the job of educating, the series Life After People is now on YouTube. A wealth of information on how fragile our infrastructure is, along with how resilient nature can be.

β€œSorry Honey, I was out late with the guys and I just got your message. Anyway, are you still in labor?”

COSTCO!

What the frick are you feeding these chickens? This is a boneless thigh!

For size reference my costco card is in forefront, a chef's knife in the background. The cutting board is standard Ikea make.

I ended up cutting this into three individual pieces.

(And it and its friends are marinating in a chimichurri sauce at the mo)

Dinner tonight was mini ravioli and animal cookies and a hunk of cheese I tore off a larger hunk of cheese, and from somewhere deep inside 12-year-old me is looking up at 53-year-old me and saying "Jesus Christ, dude, did we never actually learn to adult"

Republicans are going to run against VP Harris, not President Biden, assuming that people will prefer a fascist theocrat over a woman of color. Well, I'm just one person but I'll be on the Harris side all the way if that's how they want to play their messaging. No problem. I mean, the operative words here are "fascist theocrat" folks. It's not even a choice. #USPolitics p.s. women and girls' autonomy, lives, and futures are on the line.
