A bit more on my #antitheism

I am actively against ALL forms of organised religion.
That, however, does NOT mean that I am against people who say that they belong to those religions. I like Homo Sapiens. I used to be one myself.
I am also not against personal religion - If you want to believe in an afterlife or higher power to bring you peace or comfort, then crack on.
But if you form a religion (esp based on the Abrahamic religions), I will have a problem with it.

Thinking about how "catcalling" from construction workers is -a lot- less common than it was when I was a teen, many years ago.

Know why? Because enough MEN decided to not hire construction crews who turned into utter predatory assholes when teenaged girls walked by.

Guys: if you know your co-worker/neighbor is a bigot, or a fascism supporter, I implore you to ostracize them in as many points of life as you can..

We all have points of privilege: and they matter.

As a white LGBT person, I obviously am not gonna have much sway with anti gay folks, but I -have- personally kicked a racist LGBT person out of my house during a party because they insisted upon being racist.

It may be we can only do small actions, but they can really add up to big impact. That concludes today's lecture.

Damn right, they need to be stopped.

I keep saying this: They want 1830s with smartphones and ChatGPT. Blacks and mulattoes in chains, Latins in the fields, queers in closets, and everyone else in Christian churches and married parents by 17. #BlessedBeTheFruit #TheNewGilead

Fine specimen of a man at the gym. I think. I didn't look. Didn't want to be creepy. Maybe it wasnt a man. Could have been a woman. Definitely upright and human. Might have been a post with a jacket hung on it. I saw a lot of shoes too. #EyesDown

Kinda feel like its not too much to ask that by 14 months into this war Milley should have consulted at least one map of Ukraine by now 🀦

”The million-dollar question is now: how do we make sure the Observer is here in another seven decades?”

Our Editor in Chief @gabrielarana spoke with The Guardian, for World Press Freedom Day, about the importance of keeping publications like the ours alive: theguardian.com/media/2023/may

Respectfully, β€œvote wisely” is encouragingβ€” but not enough. As a nation, we haven’t reached 70% voter turnout since the 19th century. (electproject.org)

2024 puts the choice between maintaining our constitutional Republic and actual MAGA-GOP fascism on the ballot.

Getting out the vote MUST BE our priority, particularly in the reality of active voting suppression laws and strategies.

DYK the term 'scientist' was coined in 1834, specifically, to describe a woman of #Science b/c referring to her as a 'man of science' seemed at odds?

"Whewell coined 'scientist' not just as a gender-neutral term bt to celebrate 'the peculiar illumination of the #female mind: ability to synthesize separate fields into a single discipline...like an 'artist.'

Imagine if synthesizing minds had dominated the course of #history over the last 2k yrs?

News outlets are already saying that Colin Allred "faces headwinds" in challenging Ted Cruz for Senate next year. Cruz is a coward who encouraged insurrectionists on January 6th. Allred is a patriot who knows when it's time to fight (against a mob of insurrectionists) and when it's time for calm (in the House chamber, certifying the votes). We need Democrats willing to challenge every seat. Allred will fight hard for Texas and democracy.

The ever increasing normalization of human disposal, of violence against the inconvenient, the unwanted & people whose problems make us uncomfortable, cannot be fought with status quo politics. Valuing human life and reciprocal care will be increasingly rebellious, and we must rebel.

Ruth Ben-Ghiat warns that Republicans may be trying to crash the US economy in order to usher in authoritarian rule:

"The Republicans' endgame is to convert America into an autocracy, building on the momentum created by Donald Trump's Jan. 6 coup attempt and state-level assaults on democracy. To this end, party elites and their media allies have orchestrated a campaign to delegitimize a sitting president that has no domestic precedent in its intensity."

Many Black people struggle with internalized racism. Almost all white people have internalized racism, they're just not struggling with it. They don't even know it's in them.

And here a semi-regular reminder.

Antifa literally just means 'anti fascist'.

It's not a club.

And if you 'oppose' the idea of being against fascists then I shall call you by name...

You fucking fascist.

@coffeepine My father was a violent antifascist. He landed on the beach at Normandy in 1944, at age 21.
