6 Hypersonics Destroyed!
6 Russian Kinzhal rockets were shot down by Ukrainian air defense last night. Once more, the world saw that Russian weapons are archaic and aren't able to get through modern air defense systems.

(A good ad of Russian weapons for those who still buy them).
@ScottSoCal See? Easy peasy.

#introduction I live in the suburbs. I have planted berry bushes. The berries attracted turkeys. The turkeys dug up a portion of my neighbor's lawn to build a dust wallow. This situation amuses me far more than the neighbor. Someone else nearby has a rooster. I hope nobody narks on the rooster owners, because I kind of like the little guy. I don't talk much about how I get paid, because the stuff I'm allowed to talk about is really kind of dull.
@ScottSoCal @nafnlaus I listen to a lot of russian (exclusively from pre-2019 Zelenskyy and people he's talking to) and I'm worried I'll mix up the two. There's a lot of overlap but enough distinct words that I need to remember which goes with which language. (I know Ukrainians can understand it, but I want to be respectful.)
@ScottSoCal @nafnlaus Thanks! I don't understand words like dative or declension or whatever so I'm hoping they just have a bunch of examples. I've learned several things just through repeated exposure, like -ΠΎΠ³ΠΎ is possessive (Π·Π²Π΅ΡΠ½Π΅Π½Π½Ρ ΠΠ΅Π»Π΅Π½ΡΡΠΊΠΎΠ³ΠΎ) , you use the ending -ΠΎΠΌ when you do something (or certain things?) with (or to?) a person (ΡΠΎΠ·ΠΌΠΎΠ²Π° Π· ΠΠ°ΠΉΠ΄Π΅Π½ΠΎΠΌ). I understand gender because I've studied Spanish.
The surprising part is not that math grad students named Cox and Zucker would come up with the idea of writing a paper together just as a joke.
It's that they followed through after they were professors, and wrote a paper that was actually rather significant.
Menopause is incredibly rare in nature. Most animals die soon after their reproductive capability comes to an end. Aside from humans, only four species of wild animal are known to go through a form of menopause: orcas, narwhals, beluga whales and pilot whales. These animals might shed light on why menopause exists at all.
@nafnlaus How did you learn UA grammar? I have a fairly extensive vocabulary but I know almost nothing about grammar so I'm looking for an app or site that will teach and quiz me. Right now I probably sound like "me yesterday feeded fishes to mine two cats." People can understand what I meant to say but I sound like a child.
Ko-fi shop updated!
I know it's not the most popular platform for shopping. And as far as I know, it's not indexed by search engines.
So.... I need to get comfortable with a little spruiking.
Why ko-fi?
- Etsy is way too full of cheap and nasty ripoff products either directly from China or drop-shipped to Europe.
- My self-hosted website is cookie-free for GDPR compliance, and doesn't have shop capabilities.
- Ebay is just nasty ...
- Instagram marketplace is Zuck.
@StillIRise1963 @ScottSoCal hereβs an article about Latino truckers boycotting Florida https://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/politics/2023/05/15/florida-trucker-boycott-floridas-strict-new-immigration-law-draws-response/70217625007/
Assuming I'm autistic - still on the fence about that, but leaning - the thing I've always felt set me apart at work is my ability to make connections between very different things. I resolved an issue with cracks in a crystalline substrate by putting it into the context of my hobby, woodworking. To me it's a logical progression, but to everyone else it's the wildest kind of leap.
Does anyone else here do that? Find a solution by extrapolating in unusual directions?
Has anyone ever told my #ActuallyAutistic comrades that they werenβt βsmart enoughβ or βfocused enoughβ for school, college, or work? You arenβt alone.
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
