It is not even 2pm yet and my day has been rather eventful:

1. Went grocery shopping.

2. Picked up a prescription from CVS.

3. Got another prescription moved.

4. Cut my hair.

5. Unclogged the bathroom sink. I had a notion that it was clogged but I had proof today after my haircut. (Yes, I cut my hair myself.)

6. Took a shower.

7. Cleaned the bathroom floor.

8. Profit?

Not sure what else is in store for me today.

Scifi Mastodon, please come to my aid!

I am trying to compile a list of vintage scifi stories that feature Andean Indians able to breath the rarefied atmosphere of the planet Mars.

This is of course impossible, but was a popular motif in scifi back around the 1950s. I seem to remember it appearing in an Arthur C. Clarke science fact book, then appearing in several stories by other authors. But I can't remember the titles or authors.

I think one was Crucifixus Etiam, by Walter Miller Jr.

Good morning, especially to small baby goats who joyfully fling themselves off hay bales and dare the other goats to follow

@ScottSoCal

But still brilliant compared to MTG statements. 😜

This statement in the article bothered me.

"Kansas Republican leaders have since said more than 100 state and legislative officials have received threatening letters filled with a suspicious powdery substance."

Republican leaders are making a statement, but its unclear if all the recipients are republican.

I would speculate that is the case since they chose a deceased transgender person for the return addressee.

It occurred to me that there were two groups of people that came to Mastodon in November. The first thought Twitter was literally going to shut down and needed virtual methodone for their social media addiction. The second were users dissatisfied with what Twitter had become and jumped at an alternative. I believe it's the second group that have stuck around.

@ScottSoCal

Its the text from the article.

If you get a fraudulent phone call, you could claim to be targeted because they called your specific number. With that data alone, it sounds like speculative paranoia to claim to be targeted.

I think they just didn't want to commit to a larger targeting statement with only the information they have.

But yes, as worded it does sound stupid. 🙃

Familiar to just about every Black American, the phrase "traveling while Black" encapsulates the experiences & challenges encountered by Black people during their travels, particularly in predominantly white or racially hostile environments. It sheds light on the racial profiling, discrimination, and systemic biases that generations of Black folks have faced on their journeys across the American landscape.

If you are a cis woman, and you think anti-trans legislation does not impact you, you need to wake up. Your performance of femininity will be policed. You should care because others are being hurt, but if that is not enough, realize you too will be hurt. This is a sub toot for someone in my life who is not on the Fediverse, but I’ve said as much to this person.

russia killed these two 15-year-olds Anna and Julia in an attack on the Kramatorsk restaurant yesterday.

#Biden: Guess what? #Bidenomics is working. When I took office, the pandemic was raging and the economy was reeling. Today, the U.S. has the highest economic growth rate leading the world economy since the pandemic, the highest in the world…

Found something remarkable (and also quite sad).

In 1997, Wired published "The Long Boom", a hyper-optimistic article about how we'd achieve Utopia by 2020.

The authors included notes on some "scenario spoilers"—negative events that might send is in a worse direction.

...and those spoilers turned out to be almost spookily accurate.

I've hit the point that looking in the mirror can cause me to break out giggling like the silly girl that I am.

The absolute best is when walking down the street, catching a reflection in the glass "Oh, there's a girl there. Wait! Shit! That's me!!! I'm the girl in the reflection!"

Then my phone pulled up a picture from last year, and like, uh, I really don't look like I did 12 months ago.

This feels so good. When I started I don't know what I expected, but it certainly wasn't anything this great.

It's never too late to start your transition. I'm 28. There's trans person in one of my support groups that started in their 70s. For real folks, it's never too late. Take control. Be you. Be real.

@ScottSoCal So bizarre. I can’t believe it works, but I guess it does

Some #Kansas lawmakers worry letters with white powder could be targeted act

Political leaders in Kansas are trying to figure out what's next after suspicious letters showed up in the mailboxes of more than 100 elected officials this past weekend.

Kansas #Republican leaders called it a cowardly attempt to intimidate the legislature.

One state lawmaker in Great Bend believes someone might be targeting them.

The letter inside said 'Don't choke on your ambition'.
