59 years ago, Pres. Johnson signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act, shaping America as we know it today. 60 years ago, everyday activities like dining, hotels, & public trans were pockmarked by segregation & discrimination. This Act is the most comprehensive civil rights legislation since Reconstruction, & we owe it all to the tireless efforts of ordinary citizens in the American civil rights movement.

@actuallyautistic Okay, folks... riddle me this.

When my ex-wife was glaring at me, I did not see the glare, and this caused us a whole bunch of disputes over the years.

The thing is, however, that if you put pictures of people in front of me and you ask about how they feel, I'm going to get it right.

So I'm confused.

Are there autistic people who can pass the "tell me what this person is feeling?" test on the basis of pictures, but fail to notice the feelings displayed on folks' faces when they are involved in a situation with those folks?

Like... if they are being tested in a clam setting, they can do it. (In a clam setting, at the bottom of the sea. Har... har... I meant a calm setting.)

But if they are in a possibly anxiety-inducing situation, the ability goes out the window?

I’m having a crisis of faith: once again, my ice cream started melting before I’ve had two bites. I complained to the shop manager, who promptly looked confused. My god - what has to happen before the government does something??!

@LeatherCubAndrew @Claire @takishan @RosethornRangerTTV @actuallyautistic hi friends, thank you for pushing back against nonsense. I follow the @actuallyautistic group, who boosted the comment and that is how it saw it. Maybe they would explain what they saw to boost in it.

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistics @actuallyautistic I get a massage every couple of months. I'd do more often if money and time allowed. My dislike of being touched by strangers has a professional context loophole; as long as I have a talk with them ahead of time about "I'm never sure if I'm going to be ticklish, but keep the pressure on the firm side and that will help" they always stay on the right side of any sensory issues.

I love my cats. I anthropomorphize them. They provide a quiet, steady companionship and comfort I cannot find in people. They comprise a fundamental part of my home and routine. When something is wrong with my cats, the world is wrongβ€”everything about my day and life is broken without them. Please have compassion for those that grieve for and love their animals. @actuallyautistic #actuallyautistic #autism #autistic

Do my #ActuallyAutistic comrades use massage, somatic therapy, osteopathy, TCM, Vagal therapy, Rolfing, and other related disciplines to help with their self-regulation?

#AskingAutistics @actuallyautistics @actuallyautistic

@milkteawitch @actuallyautistic omg how could I forget about security? You’re in an absurdly long line slowly snaking through a crowd of people, and then you get to the actual check point where you put everything through and pray there isn’t a problem

You know what? Menstrual supplies SHOULD be free in public restrooms.

I mean, come on, they don't force you to bring your own toilet paper and paper towels, which are just as important.

Woke up this morning totally dysregulated at a level that I haven’t felt in a while. Months.

No clearly obvious reasons why.

Need to explore.

Yes, this happens to #ActuallyAutistic coaches, therapists & educators too. All the know-how in the world can’t stop life.

@StillIRise1963 This strikes a massive nerve. I began to question my attitudes after attending the Stephen Lawrence enquiry. And discovered a lot of stuff I’d been taught and assimilated about black people was β€œprejudicial” even though I was an active anti-racist since my teens. It was hard to drag all that shit out and move to the other side of the line where my sympathies were more β€œfor” than β€œagainst” black people. Now I see the problem is more than overt racism more about our assumptions.

I know I'm a broken record, but I'm going to keep on saying it - your campfire and fireworks this weekend are not worth the chance of starting a fire in these conditions. It's hot, it's dry, it's windy, and the gorge is already burning.

It’s true. Losing one sense enhances others.
For example, you lost your sense of humor but your sense of entitlement is through the roof.

BTW I no longer include my Twitter handle in my CNN articles- only my Mastodon handle. I refuse to promote Elon Musk's Ponzi scheme. cnn.com/2023/07/03/opinions/li

@Barbramon1 Hard right Christian groups manipulated the composition of the Court.

Now they are fabricating the cases that appear before this manipulated Court to get exactly the decisions they are looking for. John Roberts is playing right along.

The country cannot take much more of this. I don’t trust the SCOTUS to do anything to right it alone. Someone should sue the casebringers.

More handmade jewellery coming in the next few hours. Would you give a boost to this toot to support a tiny handmade art business? ❀️
