Also, I can scale the intonation of the "ok" to fit how truthful I feel comfortable being.
"ok."
"ok..."
"ok!"
@justyourluck Really sorry to hear this. Sounds like folks there haven't experienced very high temperatures before.
Tips from an Australian:
- stay indoors
- if you must go outside, carry a spray bottle of tap water and spritz yourself frequently
- apply 30+ UV cream to all exposed skin
- walk on the shaded side of the street
- shade yourself with an umbrella
- wear a broad-brimmed hat
- do not get into a car that's been parked in the sun
- drink a LOT of water, around 2- 3 pints in 8 hours
- if you stop sweating, it's a medical emergency.
- if there's no aircon, drape wet towels over yourself
- to get more from your aircon, limit the amount of space it has to cool by turning off some rooms/ shutting doors
- if the aircon is not enough, turn on a fan as well
Stay safe, people.π
Shortly after midnight I woke up because a bright light shined directly into my eyes. I got up, totally confused and realised that all the lights containing the dimmable Phillips Hue lamps were shining at maximum power. This happened because of the settings in the hue app on how to react to power failures. If you are using these kind of lamps, maybe you should check the settings too.
American Evangelicalism: For when you're a shitty judgy wrong prick but you don't think other Christian sects are racist or Nazi enough.
Fuck Jason Aldean,
and if youβre a fan of his,
Fuck YOU, too.
Be a better person.
Listen to Tim McGraw; heβs a decent person whose art, music, and values are more in line with Americaβs best qualities and greatest promises.

@ScottSoCal @KimPerales Here's an excellent resource on sundown towns for anyone interested in learning more.
James "Loewen started working on sundown towns in 1999. Having grown up in Illinois, he knew he would do more research in that state than any other, simply owing to his familiarity with it. He anticipated finding maybe 10 sundown towns in Illinois and 50 across the nation. He had no idea." https://justice.tougaloo.edu/sundown-towns/
Many people are surprised to learn that ants sleep. Even more surprising is the evidence that suggest they may dream (RAE is a sleep state found in ants and bees chattered by Rapid Antennae Movements and possibly similar to the REM sleep in mammals)
Ants sleep frequently and in funny locations. Generally they will rest their thorax and gaster on the ground, fold their antennae and be very still. They nap for 10min up to an hour. Queen ants will sleep for up to 4 hours at a time.
@ScottSoCal Yes, youβre correct, it happens throughout America. We need to continue to expose the horrific behavior & crimes & work toward eradicating systemic racism.
We cannot afford winning close elections, Georgia, Montana, Nevada, and all the many places where attempts to defeat majority votes with bad faith are red flags that voting alone is not enough. Vote like your life depends on it, because it does!

Aldeanβs song has resonated with ppl who idolize small-towns, but heβs actually legitimizing vigilantism & violence, blaming Black people for crime & more diverse big cities. #DEI can lead to unity, respect & a stronger nation: Thereβs a reason that Black people still talk about βsundown townsβ in the South & Midwest, places that arenβt safe for us to be after dark -itβs precisely bc of a kind of glorification of small-town tribal violence thatβs in Aldeanβs song & video. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/07/21/tulsa-race-jason-aldean-true-crime/
Reminded me of the scene with the Grissini (T'Pol using fork and knife to eat it).
After recently rewatching TNG, I feel as if these scenes are little discourses about personal/social perspectives.
Archer IMHO is the "typical American", who takes his (personal) culture for granted.
"Why are foreign delegates offended by a shared meal?"
"Why doesn't T'Pol eat meat?"
"Why are people offended when my dogs pees on their holy tree?"
I'm re-watching Star Trek Enterprise, and something struck me different this time. Made me irritated, actually.
Archer: Go mingle. It's a chance to fraternize with the crew.
T'Pol: I'm not accomplished at fraternizing.
Archer: It's a chance to learn.
First time I've watched it since figuring out I'm autistic, and that exchange bothered me. It bothered me a lot. I'm also not accomplished at fraternizing, and shove your ableist attitude.
