An observation on how #Mastodon is growing πŸ‘€

Over the past month, multiple journalists from top outlets have contacted me related to content I’ve shared.

While this was not uncommon on #Twitter when I was active there, it’s relatively new for me in the #fediverse. I suspect this suggests professional news outlets are becoming more comfortable here & posts have increasing impact. Good.

@VeryBadLlama I've seen lot of unhinged alpha male takes (or whatever they're calling themselves these days) but this is.... I mean I think I'm honestly impressed?

@ScottSoCal @actuallyautistic Definitely one of those time that nerves doing nerve stuff would be nice. You OK?

@actuallyautistic

So we've talked about higher pain threshold, and missing injuries because we just don't feel them, but today was a new one.
Since the medical crap last month I've been working up to my usual routine - a 5 mile walk in the early morning. This morning I came home, sat for a while, went upstairs to take a shower, and found one of my socks bloody from about the middle of the arch to the toes. Who knew? Not me. Woops.

πŸ§΅β€‹ definitions of many queer terms, long, basically an infodump

note: all of these definitions were sourced from en.pronouns.page/terminology, with some minor clarifications and grammar/formatting fixes by me! :sparkles_autistic: :boosts_are_okay:

:sparkles_agender: Agender - a gender identity that is neither "woman", "man", nor any other gender. Being agender can be defined as having no gender identity. Some feel that they identify more as a person rather than a gender, or feel genderless, or like they're outside of the gender binary.

:sparkles_aromantic: Aromantic - a term referring to someone whose experience with romance is disconnected from societal expectations, typically due to a lack of or very low romantic attraction, seeing the idea of romance as repulsive, or lack of interest in romantic relationships.

:sparkles_asexual: Asexual - an orientation characterized by non-existent (or a lack of) sexual attraction. Asexual people can have sexual desires (libido), but not a real sexual attraction to people. This term is commonly abbreviated to "ace".

:sparkles_bigender: Bigender - a gender identity characterized by having two separate (not necessarily binary) gender identities at the same time, or changing between two gender identities over time.

:sparkles_bisexual: Bisexual - an orientation characterized by sexual attraction towards two or more genders, or sexual attraction to both similar and dissimilar genders.

:sparkles_demifemme: Demifemme - a gender identity that is partially (but not fully) a girl or a woman. The other part of one's gender can be any gender or combination of genders, including a lack of gender (agender).

:sparkles_demigender: Demigender - a gender identity that involves only a partial connection or identification with a certain gender, or a partial connection to gender itself.

:sparkles_demimasc: Demimasc - a gender identity that is partially (but not fully) a boy or a man. The other part of one's gender can be any gender or combination of genders, including a lack of gender (agender).

:sparkles_gay_male: Gay Male / MLM - an orientation referring to a man (or a male-aligned nonbinary individual) who is attracted to men or male-aligned nonbinary people.

:sparkles_genderflux: Genderflux - a term signifying that one's gender identity fluctuates over time in terms of intensity. The fluctuations may be extreme (from no sense of a gender to a very strong sense of gender) or modest (from a small sense of gender to a medium sense of gender).

:sparkles_genderqueer: Genderqueer - an umbrella term describing individuals who feel that they have a queer or non-normative experience with gender, either through their gender identity, their gender presentation, or other experiences of gender.

:sparkles_grey_aromantic: Grey Aromantic - a term referring to people who experience romantic attraction rarely or only under specific circumstances, or who may feel romantic attraction but not desire a romantic relationship. It can also refer to other not-purely-aromantic identities (i.e. demiromantic).

:sparkles_grey_asexual: Grey Asexual - a term referring to people who experience sexual attraction rarely or only under specific circumstances. It can also refer to other not-purely-asexual identities (i.e. demisexual) or those who relate to asexuality but feel that parts of their experiences are not fully described by the term.

:sparkles_intersex: Intersex - a term referring to all people whose bodies do not conform to the established categories of "male" and "female", on a chromosomal, anatomical, and/or hormonal level. An intersex person can be of any gender identity.

:sparkles_neutrois: Neutrois - a gender identity that is neutral, but not the same as being agender. This term comes from Latin "neuter" (meaning "neither of the two") and French "trois" (meaning "three", as in "third gender").

:sparkles_queer: Queer - a reclaimed slur referring to someone who is not cisgender and/or heterosexual and/or allosexual/alloromantic, or someone with variant experiences with orientation, gender, and/or sex. More than two years after the Capitol was attacked by Trump supporters, congressional Republicans, Fox, and countless other people are STILL referring to these jackasses as β€œpatriots” and β€œtourists.” They’re insurrectionists; that’s what they are. They rose up against their own country. They attacked the guardians of their democracy. And they did it for a fascist, because they fear that they are being β€œreplaced.” Sick. Sick. Sick.

There’s an incredibly gorgeous and dramatic hill smack dab in the middle of edinburgh and people here are just going about their lives instead of staring at it gaping all day

@StillIRise1963 Garland was a terrible choice. seems like we get confirmation of that all the time.

The first blossoms on my Japanese rose (kerria japonica). The tag on this plant said it would grow to 4’x4’, and I imagined it would take some time to reach that size, but it’s already that big after one year and I think the tag lied to me. I’ll prune at the end of summer, after enjoying the flowers

The images from #Lahaina town (#Hawaii) after being devastated by wildfires that were fanned into the town by Hurricane Dora are just the beginning of what will be our day-to-day reality in the near future if no radical cuts in emissions are implemented.

She didn't even crack a hint of a smile. Just... said this like it was real.

Babe, I hope you are getting your pay upfront for this gig because it might be hard to find work after telling lies like this with a dead-serious face. #twitter #yaccarino #ElonMusk

SURPRISING: Anti-Trump sentiment spreading on Truth Social

Truth Social may not be the conservative, safe space the former president was seeking.

#ThrowBackThursday to 2008 when my friends mom had passed away a few months prior and we wanted to cheer him up so we arrived at his door dressed like Barry Gibb and Barbra Streisand from the Guilty album.

Why do so many of my physician colleagues seem to view themselves as heroes in an Ayn Rand novel?

@miaoue @foo @actuallyautistic Yeah, completely agree on soft clothes. Linen feels fabulous to me, but it’s hard to find stuff that I really really like.

Does anyone have any recommendations for how to find sensory friendly clothing? Or options that have worked well for you?

i think some people have a definition of "good person" that focuses a lot on saying nice things.

but i'm more concerned with actions. giving lip service to things is easy.
