@mekkaokereke When fellow white people say the civil rights movement was nonviolent, I say it was very violent, but the violence was all on the side refusing civil rights. I think people want to forget how violent it was, and think there was just these nice marches, then we all agreed, how pleasant!
Saying "I don't like political violence, whether it comes from the left or the right" in regards to US politics is not an enlightened statement. It's anti-Black. Because at its core is the extreme reluctance to even acknowledge that almost all US political violence is on one side: the fascist side trying to maintain minority rule.
I'm not even talking about the appropriateness of violence for self-defense. I'm talking about the fact that Black folk and US progressives don't violently coup.π€·πΏββοΈ
I've pleaded with folks to provide high quality masks at their meetings to make the meetings safer and if they REALLY want to do a social hour with food to hold it after the meeting so folks who aren't comfortable participating can leave. I've told these same people how I'm immunocompromised and how isolating it has been to see people drop mask requirements and stop taking precautions.
They said they "heard me" and then did nothing.
The English language is a wonderful thing, and we know some rules without knowing we know them.
βHave you ever heard that patter-pitter of tiny feet? Or the dong-ding of a bell? Or hop-hip music? Thatβs because, when you repeat a word with a different vowel, the order is always I A O. Bish bash bosh. So politicians may flip-flop, but they can never flop-flip. Itβs tit-for-tat, never tat-for-tit. This is called ablaut reduplication, and if you do things any other way, they sound very, very odd indeed.β From βThe Elements of Eloquenceβ by Mark Forsyth.
@ScottSoCal "Worf, in pink" is really understating that outfit
those shoulders! that collar! the giant gold chain! the black leather undershirt! the swept-back blonde hair!
@ScottSoCal Worf did always have exceptional hair.
One of the saddest parts of binge watching the Big Bang Theory is realizing what a nerd I am.
I get all their references. All of them.
For example: Sheldon was wearing a t-shirt that had the silouettes of a lot of sci-fi robots. I knew them all. All of them. Without fail.
Even the science stuff. I may not be able to follow it, but I understand where theyβre coming from.
Iβve found myself laughing at some obscure thing, and my dude looks at me and goes, βI donβt get it.β
I do. Always.
Arkansas banned paying for AP African history testsβbut pays for AP European history
TX banned abortion b/c a fetus has rightsβbut reject liability for a stillbirth b/c a fetus has no rights
N Dakota GOP banned free school lunchesβbut gave themselves free lunches
For the GOP, hypocrisy isnβt a bugβitβs the feature. Vote them out.

Another "Miserable Monday." Another "Excessive Heat Warning" is affect for #today. Another humid n sticky night under the fan in order to sleep. π
I have tended to think this may be the "new normal" now. But I know that isn't true. This is just the beginning, and in a way, I'm glad I'm a retired old man with a bad heart n little time left to suffer through this.
So I go about #myday. Doin' the little bit I can do and hum along to my 'theme song' for a little comfort. :
"All of the hard days are gone.
It's all beer n Whisky and songs from now on.
Laugh at the darkness and dance until dawn.
All of the hard days are gone."
Sorry for the ugly mood #today. Y'all just enjoy what ya got while ya got it. π And of course, feel free to #joinin n sing along. ππ
Hey #filmphotgraphy folk: I'm struggling to effectively process and invert my negatives. I do not have Adobe and I don't really want to get sucked into their model for my hobby. What do you recommend? Darktable is powerful but imposing, I can't really wrap my head around its UI
