Just realizing what it means to be marginalized: for my whole life, my mere existence has offended someone. When I was younger it was because I was not white, not Christian (the first could not be changed, but the second caused a lot of my “friends” to try to baptize me). Now it’s because I’m a woman that is a successful computer scientist. If someone’s mere existence challenges your world view/makes you uncomfortable or upset, you might be a bad person!!

I'm 3rd generation British and have had problems with racists all my life.

But these Nazi riots don't scare me, they make me happy.

Because a small group of racists protesting just shows how small they are.

Months ago, they were in Government. That was scary.

Today in Bristol, a lynch mob of far right scum bags targeted a hotel housing refugees. It was not the police who prevented them from reaching the building and unleashing violence/attempting to murder them, but a large group of antifascists. The videos look very intense, there was a lot of fighting as the small number of police present stood by and watched. Folks on the ground reported that police on horses didn’t arrive until the far right was roughly 15 feet away from the front entrance.

The antifascists held their ground and bravely put their bodies on the line to protect the people inside. Aside from their often thankless bravery, this kind of work is extremely scary and causes trauma that remains with you for a lifetime. But it is *the* only way to get rid of fascists. I know it’s not for everyone, it shouldn’t be, but it’s necessary work. Scary times, but folks like these always give me hope.

Eldest daughter just turned up with 'friend' (new girlfriend, soft introduction as she's just split from boyf of 7 years) to collect her sis (17) to go to Pride Brighton tomorrow. Such a lovely event. Used to take the kids when they were young and knew a couple of the organisers. It's quite funny - they're taking my nephew who's secretly enby but also openly gay now (my BiL is a little intolerant but coming around, but enby is a step too far for him at the mo). My eldest has always been a little cross with me about being too tolerant, and it feels like she wanted a big coming out drama and was annoyed when we were all fine, so told me off for calling her gay when she was pan/bi etc. But split (very amicably) with her fella because..... she's decided she's gay! I win! I win the gay wars! Only joking. Fwiw I've just never been bothered about it. No idea why. Just built that way. Everyone assumes I'm gay and I don't bother to correct them. I love the gays! Can I say that? Most definitely NOT! Lol. But I'll say it anyway. So to all my gay brethren and sistren and othren and nothren, I say.... 👊
