The lap of nature is an endless love. For some moments, I forgot about the sub-zero cold of the north. Nature's embrace and pure air in lungs made me meditative. I had to close my eyes to feel the depth. From my winter wonderland, I am sending you hope, love, warmth and joy 🧡

The men, women and children who perished in extermination camps had *lives*. They were grandparents, musicians, rabbis, schoolgirls, craftsmen, mothers, shopkeepers, toddlers, artists. They played, created, dreamed, wondered, wrote, cooked, studied, taught, cared for others, were imperfect, and were loved.

Reflecting on the total disaster of a year that I spent trying to teach Middle School. Besides the self knowledge about my adolescent classroom management abilities, the main takeaway was the recipe for Rum Cake that I got from the Home Ec teacher after a particularly lovely staff Christmas lunch.

I’m an editor at Gannett. I manage 4 reporters and lead the investigative and data work at the Asbury Park Press in NJ.

This week, I’m on mandatory furlough.

I appreciate the time with my family, but it is a truly horrid time of year to take away a portion of anyone’s salary.

I make $70K a year. I’m grateful for it. But I’m a single dad with two kids. It hurts.

The employees of this company deserve better. At the very least, they deserve to be paid what the company agreed to pay them.

Putin is coming to the realization that it's a lot harder taking over Ukraine than the GOP.
