Spike has let us know his time on this planet is coming to an end. I am heartbroken & also forever grateful to him for his 19 years of wonderful companionship. Heโs fought & won many other health battles over the years, but kidney failure has beaten him this time. ๐๐๐#Cats #Kitties #SayingGoodbye #EndOfLife #BelovedPet #KittyCompanion #Grief #Love
Hmm. So let me get this straight. Meta are ponying up $725 million to settle a suit over itโs improper sharing of user data with Cambridge Analytics, and yet somehow the British establishment concluded that there was no manipulation of the electorate, no clandestine spending on advertising, no malfeasance, and nothing to see.
My emotional dumping this morning (thanks to everyone who answered and shared advice! ) has really solidified my belief that not being fully out is the source of a major chunk of my distress at this time.
It's going to take a little while to properly set up this conversation with my family, but I feel like I need to prove to myself that I'm not just going to delay these difficult conversations anymore.
It's time to tell my closest comedy friends. The ones I'm afraid to lose.
Ronald Reagan hagiography sends me right up a wall.
On top of my earlier list, he traded arms for hostages in Iran-Contra to fund a genocidal war in Central America, created bogus supply-side economics that exploded the deficit with tax cuts for the rich, making budget cuts โnecessaryโ but only for lower income people, Black people, people living with a disability, and older people, and cut funding for mental health, making millions unhoused. He also had the gall to tax Social Security to pay for the hole he blew in the budget. Ignored AIDS until Rock Hudson got it. The list goes on and on.
People who are need to stop venerating Reagan and pretending he was anything but a disaster for this country.
I was blessed to do a wee project up North some years ago renovating bikes and teaching bike repair to refugees. It was the most gloriously uplifting thing. A bike is simple, low cost and makes the most amazing difference to quality of life. If you are in Dublin and have an unused bike about the place maybe pass it on to The Good Bike Project #BikeTooter #mastodaoine

โAh look thereโs another idiotic thing Musk has done over on Twitter!โ
After a while it gets repetitive
We have ample evidence now heโs not just erratic and unpleasant as CEO but downright dangerous
With Musk in control the place canโt be saved
The main point now: getting people to move en masse - here to Mastodon or indeed to whatever other network(s) make sense. Nothing else makes sense as a reaction
If you care, move
I want to take a moment to brag on the #Jewish Mastodon community (aka, #Mazeldon )
I've had the chance to participate in several discussions on very touchy topics over the last couple of weeks (including about issues related to #Israel/#Palestine) and I've been very pleasantly surprised by the quality and civility of conversation, even when those having the discussion have very different perspectives.
It's not perfect, but compared to #Birdsite or FB, this is a breath of fresh air.
If I had a time machine I would travel back millions of years to meet my great axolotl grandparents.

I'm a #trans woman with a shiny new master's degree in #datascience so yes, Python is my love language ๐
My two other defining personality traits are:
- I'm a huge #trpg nerd (mostly #dnd and #cyberpunk but literally down to try out anything) ๐ฒ
- I'm a pretentious #film #movies snob (especially when it comes to the apex of cinema, Surf's Up (2007)) ๐ฅ
And that's pretty much me within 500 characters, be my internet friend pls :)
So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing.
