@georgetakei Well last time I think it resulted into marching into Poland. But maybe I am too pessimistic.

"A recognition that America is a nation with generations of institutional, systematic oppression of non-white racial minorities and that we should do something to address it" happens to be nearly the exact words used by Ron DeSantis' attorneys when asked in court to define this "woke" thing he and they believe needs to be outlawed and forbidden from being discussed in education and in public.

They'd have labeled Dr. King as a "woke" enemy to far-right Republicanism.

This weekend the birth of Dr. King is rightfully celebrated as many (even if only superficially) reflect on his legacy.

Still, I canโ€™t help but also think of the lesser known, but incredibly impressive, leaders of the black liberation struggle of the 1960s.

One woman in particular...

Fannie Lou Hamer โ€“ best known for her famous line โ€œIโ€™m sick and tired of being sick and tiredโ€ โ€“ doesnโ€™t get the attention of MLK.

But, I promise you if he were still alive today, Dr. King would remind us to never forget that woman and the example she embodied โ€ฆ

Hi everyone,
I am Nila. I am a neuroscientist & currently a Postdoc in Rainer Friedrich's lab at FMI. I study the circuit of the olfactory bulb in the adult zebrafish using a connectomic approach. Recently I have been a bit sidetracked by telencephalic temptations...

I am here to keep up to date and exchange with the scientific community. But I love to have my mind blown by anything nature. So, I am hoping to learn many fun facts outside of my horizons (& to see many beautiful images as well).
I am a first-gen academic which has sometimes been a struggle (mostly in my mind). Topics of open access, social mobility & justice are important to me, and I do have to learn a lot there.
Parenting 3 little humans doesn't leave much energy for hobbies but running is my lifeline.

me: kids, I remember when soap came in a bar

soap: *from living room* it was ONE TIME, and I was in a very bad place

As we celebrate and reflect on the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., let us all recommit to building a better, fairer, more equitable world.

Risquรฉ joke.

Ever had sex while camping?

Itโ€™s fucking in tents!

As a super liberal who is surrounded by super liberals, not one time has anyone ever identified gas stoves as our next hill to do battle.
Weโ€™re all still caught up with disenfranchised voters and the right to our bodily privacy etc.

The year is 2072, civilization has been wiped out. Only small pockets of humanity remain. But in the dark back kitchen of a former Olive Gardenยฎ the Never-Ending Pasta Bowlsยฎ are bubbling over with Ravioli, Penne and Stuffed Shells.

I'd feel hella awkward tagging Neil Gaiman to tell him I read his book. But just every other author I enjoy, I quietly check to see if they're on mastodon because I want to give a fist bump. No luck yet!
Is there an author index somewhere?

I kinda liked it better when racists were ashamed and stayed in the closet.

I donโ€™t know about you all, but every time I see a picture of #GeorgeSantos, I get *serial killer vibes*.

I know, I know. Itโ€™s just my own prejudices and biasesโ€ฆ But yeah, serial killer all the wayโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

โ€œDaddy what is this cable?โ€

โ€œOh thatโ€™s called a parallel cable. A DB-25 if I remember correctly.โ€

โ€œWhat do you use it for?โ€

โ€œLiterally nothing.โ€

โ€œAre you going to throw it away then?โ€

โ€œAbsolutely not.โ€

Iโ€™m old enough to remember the first TED talk.
It was most excellent.
