Bentley was a successful African American pianist, blues singer, and entertainer during the Harlem Renaissance. Her career took off when she appeared at a gay club in NYC: Harry Hansberry's Clam House, as a black, lesbian, cross-dressing performer backed by a chorus line of drag queens. Her signature outfit remains a tuxedo and top hat!

The assault on Black bodies in the streets of America is interconnected with the attack on Black history/African American Studies.

The real story about the Google layoffs is less a story about Google & more about how broken the US immigration system is. How is it that people can be working in a country for 5, 10, 15 years without being granted any kind of stable immigration status? As an American immigrant to Canada, we had permanent residency within a few years. At 5.5 years landed now, we’re in the last steps of the citizenship process. It should not be so hard to get status in a country you live, work, and pay taxes in.

A friend sent this:
“Our six-year-old handed us a note. His teacher had called my wife and I in for an emergency meeting. We asked our son if he had any idea why
and he said, "She didn't like a drawing I did."
We went in the next day.
His teacher pulled the drawing below out and said, "I asked him to draw his familv and he drew this. Would vou mind explaining?"
