@ScottSoCal unfortunately, when you look back you see a lot of subtle transphobia (and also just shaming on appearances, especially weight) in the books? Like Rita Skeeter was always described as looking masculine and having “mannish hands” for example. Her characterization of lycanthropy in her words as an HIV allegory too, especially as Lupin was the exception to werewolves who generally side with Voldemort, and Fenrir who “converts” children. 😬

Happy Birthday to this meeb on #MonDog ! (Okay, yesterday, but close enough.) She’s eight years old now, but the vet tech thought I meant eight months because she’s so excitable. 🥰🐾

Does anyone else use the term “meeb” or did my husband and I make it up? It means an animal that’s cute and goofy. She’s being very meeby in this picture.

Julian Khater, the man who assaulted United States Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick with pepper spray on January 6, 2021, was just sentenced to 80 months — nearly 7 years — behind bars. Officer Sicknick died the following day. Sicknick's mother, Gladys, told the insurrectionist, "You attacked my son like he was an animal. You are the animal, Mr. Khater. How does it feel to be headed to jail because of a bald-faced lie?"

Just having a conversation about banned books. I have mixed feelings about Flannery OConnor. Mostly negative. I appreciate her story craft, but yikes. Racist TBH, even for that time. And then i have to put “even for that time” in there. I mean … But I *wouldn’t ban her books. I’m glad I got to read her stories and form my own opinion. #books
