One of the leading independent news outlets on the Fediverse, the Texas Observer, unexpectedly finds itself having to fight to stay open.
They've been a progressive news source since 1954, and have recently been promoting the Fediverse as a way for news media to escape corporate capture.
If you want to help them stay alive, here are some options:
- Give a donation at https://www.gofundme.com/f/laid-off-texas-observer-journalists-and-staff
- Boost their appeal for help at https://texasobserver.social/@TexasObserver/110098765781725050
- Follow them at @TexasObserver
@1finekitty ""We didnβt see pictures. We put up a story that was very exculpatory, very good story from the standpoint of what weβre talking about," he said."
I didn't see this "interview" nor would I ever watch Faux, but I'm willing to bet he didn't say 'exculpatory' without mangling it, and somebody else told him that word and explained it to him.
Amazing! Our GoFundMe is up to over $150k in under 24 hours, with over 2000 donors. It's clear our work is so important to so many... We know many of those donations come from here on Mastodon and we are so grateful for everyone that's been sharing and giving.
Our team is meeting this morning to discuss potential next steps as we await an official response from our board.

A month ago I shared a #colorful #romantic scene with a man and a woman and a commenter here said they'd like to see something similar with two men instead. This is a result of that challenge. β€οΈ

Sharing is always welcome whether through boosts or otherwise. This is how I pay the bills. β
In my teens, I came home late after having had too much to drink and fell down the basement stairs, waking everyone up in the process.
My younger siblings gathered at the top of the stairs, rather concerned about the situation.
My dad stepped forward, looked at me laying there in my drunken state, turned to my siblings and said, "Let that be an example for you," turned off the lights and went to bed.
As the oldest child, passing on life experience is an important responsibility.

not all Americans are evil. Republicans and nonvoters are the ones that have let the NRA murder so many of our children and fellow citizens.
We have ways of making you flower!

Recent research suggests that if food is scarce hungry #bumblebees will chew on plant leaves - not to eat them - but to stress the plant causing it to #flower thus providing earlier #pollen for the bees.
Chew on that! π€―

Happy Danish Overshoot Day! Today, 28th March, is the date on which Denmarkβs demand for ecological resources this year has exceeded what Earth can regenerate before the end of the year.
To celebrate, hereβs a bench raised to the height of the floods that 'will be an everyday occurrence if we donβt actβ. I snapped the photo very quickly last July before rushing back indoors. It was 34,3Β°, the hottest ever recorded in Odense. So far.
Iβm looking for an experienced #SoundDesign peep to create a soundtrack for a Film I made for the #IWM Imperial War Museum Duxford. The film was projected onto a huge aircraft hanger, and told the story of the formation of the parachute regiment, & its part in the opening hours of DDay.
It's being rehoused inside the main exhibition, and needs a narrated soundtrack, as well as SFX to accompany the action.

Here's the Film:

28 March 1921 | A Pole, Jerzy Bielecki, was born. He was a prisoner of Auschwitz no. 243 (first transport of Poles to the camp from 14 June 1940).
On 21 July 1944 he escaped from the camp in an SS uniform taking with him a Polish Jewish female prisoner Cyla Cybulska. They were in love.

Hey all I am totally exhausted from a long day of meetings, negotiations, and anxiety over the future. Closing the laptop for now though I'll be back if there's any updates tonight. Please keep sharing the GoFundMe, thank you so much. I wish I had the spoons to reply to everyone individually.βKit @oconnell

Nobody messes with #Texas the way Texans mess with Texas and @TexasObserver staff needs our help. Please give what makes sense for you for #journalism and #democracy. https://www.gofundme.com/f/laid-off-texas-observer-journalists-and-staff
