Is it me or are there more pictures without #AltText these days?
Please remember to add alt text. It doesn't take long and, like subtitles on TV, it's good for everyone. I like reading the alt text. And try not to boost things without it.
Please welcome my very favorite hermit / anchoress @JulianNorwich1 over from the birdsite.
A wonderful person & another big win for #mastodon #FollowFriday
Well, looks like I've been laid off. Gonna take some time to get myself in order, but if anyone's looking for an experienced DevOps / Platform Engineer with a passion for developer enablement and containers, hit me up here or at hachyjobs @ kantzer dot io.
Our Editor in Chief @gabrielarana and @thenation's John Nichols are live NOW on the Your Call #Media Roundtable on KALW in the Bay Area, talking about how we saved the Texas Observer: https://www.kalw.org/show/your-call/2023-03-31/texas-observer-will-remain-open-after-staff-raises-over-300k
Yesterday,I rescued an injured #coyote here in Tahoe. Unfortunately, an x-ray revealed that someone shot the animal in the spine with a pellet gun paralyzing it. With no hope of a successful recovery, we had to euthanize the animal. What is wrong with people? I don't understand this level of cruelty!
People that torture wildlife deserve a ride to the train station. The Yellowstone train station.
Twitterโs ad revenue is down 89% and not many users are signing up to its paid subscription. In April, itโs removing โlegacyโ blue checks and further prioritizing paid accounts.
For Disconnect, I explain that Elon Musk needs this to push more users to subscribe to Twitter Blue so he can pay his $1.5 billion in annual interest payments. But it doesnโt look like thatโs going to happen.

When I graduated uni in 2008, I figured compsci was more-or-less future proof as a career: cutting edge tech, still in the first century of discovery, it seemed like a golden age in spite of the now obvious signs of decay.
Now, I'm unemployed again with 20 years of experience in this ridiculous field. I remember feeling very confident in my c# and JS back then, ready to replace those COBOL-dinosaurs who weren't keeping up.
Oh the irony...

Our state's abortion restrictions have not only prohibited access to elective pregnancy termination, but theyโve also obstructed the path for timely and medically appropriate care for many Texans experiencing pregnancy complications.
This article was my first big deep dive into healthcare access in a post-Roe Texas for the @TexasObserver. I hope you give it a read:

my mom woke up in the middle of the night from these powerful explosions. r*ssians terrorized one of the most beautiful Zaporizhzhia suburbs with several missiles hitting the homes of peaceful Ukrainians
r*ssia is a mad death cult.

So... me. Work in aerospace, more space, not as much aero. Can fix my own car, choose not to. Can fix the random appliance of your choice. Hardcore introvert in person, which is why I love online. Lifelong science fiction fan. Read constantly. Scalzi is my favorite author, because he mixes exactly the right amount of snark into his writing. Together with a guy 30+ years, married since it was legal. Own a home in CA and don't plan to leave unless I immigrate to another country.
