A wide ask here so please boost: my grandfather is trying to get rid of an old business computer, and I was wondering whether any vintage computer people might want it. It was purchased for $50k from The Ultimate Corporation in the early 80s. This ran the Pick operating system, and my best guess is the hardware was originally manufactured by GE or Honeywell. It's about the size of a half-rack and currently lives in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. It has sat covered in plastic in a chemical warehouse for the past 35 years. Where do people usually post stuff like this other than here? Thanks!
No movie has ever grossed this much money at the US-Canada box office in under 36 hours. No movie anywhere. And this is REAL LIFE. This is US. We are writing and making HERSTORY. We must vote like weβve never voted before for it November 5. WE WILL WIN. SHE WILL WIN. #Harris2024 #kamalaharris #harris #vote

Mastodon for Harris has surpassed $40,000 raised, with 600 contributions ranging from $1 to significantly more. I have increased the goal to $45,000 - considered $50,000 but I hardly dare to think we could raise that in under two days.
The boosts and posts spreading the word are so helpful. And thanks non-U.S. friends and followers for tolerating all the U.S. politics in their feeds.
On 23 July, 2006, my oldest son, Ryan, deployed to SW Asia, called me. His vehicle was in a convoy on its way to Mosul, where Iβd been in 2004.
Despite being just weeks from coming home, the kid volunteered for the mission because, he said, he wanted to see some of what Iβd seen in northern Iraq. Then, he had to go and said βI love you, dad.β Those were the last words my oldest son ever said to me. A little more than a week later, Ryan was KIA.

Hey folks, Iβm on a new instance using GotoSocial and having issues migrating from my other instance.
Would you mind sharing this post so I can federate and regain connections? Thanks!

Whatever your political goals are, who's more likely to be able to be swayed in your direction, Trump or Harris? What are the odds?
For anything I care about, the odds of me doing anything to change Trump's mind is zero. For Harris, it's a small, but non-zero value. Mystery third option is unknown, but unlikely to be meaningfully greater than with Harris.
So I've got either:
1) 50% chance of having no influence
2) 50% chance of having a marginal influence
3) ?????

I'm realizing a communication accommodation can be the ability to edit your posts
Verbiage flies out of my mouth or from my fingers half-formed a lot of the time and I will edit stuff several times after to adequately convey my thought
In real life this just results in folks dismissing what I'm saying or endlessly debating or correcting me because I can't go back and edit what I verbally told them, because I was either missing critical details or misconveyed a point
(Case in point, I've edited this post 3 times so far)
This Atlantic piece actually highlights how Biden dropping out when he did is perfect timing. By doing so almost immediately after the RNC, in the middle of a long weekend (a move designed to screw over the pundit class), he murdered the GOPβs momentum overnight and left them stuck with a VP candidate who wonβt do anything outside of Trumpβs base. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2024/07/trump-campaign-biden-dropping-out/679183/
