I am seriously considering getting my first two tattoos, one on each shoulder. I don’t know anything about tattoos at all! Tattoo-havers, please share any advice or anecdotes a neophyte should heed!

@aquinton hmm, curious if there's a really breathable top you could wear over top? Like a short sleeve underarmor
re: #tattoos #advice
@hergaiety I bet there is, but I’m also worried that the rubbing of my running backpack shoulder straps could be painful or interfere with healing. I’m gonna be running _so much_ next summer! I should just stop overthinking this though
re: #tattoos #advice
@aquinton I personally think you'd be fine but I respect you not wanting to interfere with your running plans, they also sell plastic wrap that artists usually put over it once you get it that I bet could be used again if you were concerned about rubbing

@aquinton no advice but I want to see this be a thing!
re: #tattoos #advice
@aquinton Take some ibuprofen beforehand! And don't scratch the itches. That's all I got. I have only one tattoo that I got in 1997 although I would dearly love to get another

@aquinton Go in expecting pain. If the tattoo artist offers numbing gel, I've been told that the pain that hits you when it wears off is worse than the pain during the tattooing. I've never used it. However, just brace yourself for the feeling of a long, mean beesting. It's tolerable though; you'll be okay. Also, do NOT pick at it when it's peeling. I have like 14 tattoos so far. :)

I intend to get a werewolf bite scar on my left shoulder, either on the upper arm or over the collar bone, visible from the front and back. Something like this but a little more stylized (closeup from an image by “thedrawingduke” on Instagram)
