microsoft fucks with hacker, hacker makes it their life mission to ruin microsoft, hacker is winning

Nightmare Eclipse is such a hero tbh. if you haven't been following this saga, a bunch of the backstory is here:

they've been dropping exploits right after microsoft's patch tuesdays, where microsoft patches their previous exploit. in many cases, they negate microsoft's "secure" patches to make the new exploit. which is such an incredible flex.

M4, POSIX, bad intrusive thought of the day

Implementing in POSIX M4 the GNU & BSD M4 macros not in POSIX, such that the Heirloom Project M4 can run them without smashing its limited buffer and recursion stack space.

I always find it impressive when someone breaks previous records, but the new hide and seek champion is taking it a bit far

60 years ago tonight, NBC aired its first red-shirt dying on an alien planet, while on a routine mission in some kind of Star Trek, thinking he would get stereotypical sailor lucky with a salt monster and falling into The Man Trap.

The red-shirt's uniform was a blue shirt.

It took me a month to figure out why a CSS background was perfectly aligned with rows of pre element text in one browser on one PC, but refused to line up in any browser on another PC, not even the same browser.

Some fonts have line height oddities, & my font-face stack named fonts not on both PCs. Oops.

Saw the most rustic EV charger I’ve ever seen in my life on vacation.

Windows 10 & 11 gripe

If you run Outlook for Windows during an Internet access outage, then instead of opening a window, it instantly pops up an error message then quits. The error:

---

Connection Error

A connection to the internet could not be established. Please connect to the internet and restart the application.

[_OK_]

Boy, destroying the Mail app built in to Windows & replacing it with a PWA worse than Electron was sure a good move and worth it.

A crow casually removing several metal anti-bird spikes from a building ledge.

I still think of what would've happened to CP/M-86 and GEM if IBM had put in a modicum of effort to meet with Digital Research instead of Micro-Soft.
