Aww man a super weird unfolding drama in the physics community, as yet unresolved and involving :
* very surprising claims of room temperature superconductivity!
* datasets that look super faked!!
* some hacker spoofing emails from respected scientists telling investigators to lay off investigating the research group with the super dodgy looking data!!!

a reminder that some CD drives in the early 2000s reached high read speeds by just spinning CDs so fast they would sometimes shatter in the drive, and some manufacturers compensated for this with reinforced fronts
http://www.qedata.se/e_js_n-cdrom.htm and these magnificent people ran an experiment on when various media would shatter
tl;dr, if you want shards of plastic fired at you at half the speed of sound, old 50+-speed CD drives are where it's at
One cool thing about how fast memes and slang come and go these days is how easy it’s gonna be to date texts. The English subtitles for Yakuza 0 contain the word “butthurt,” so in the absence of any other context I can date the translation to between 2014 and 2016.

question for nb folks (boosting is ok)
do you feel that the word "trans" applies comfortably to you? if not, are there other people who identify as NB that you mentally consider to fit that label?
i don't necessarily mean in a self-gatekeeping way or anything, but the conflation of those two terms seems to vary from person to person
i've been sort of iffy about where i fit into the whole "cis"/"trans" dichotomy but i've also still felt aimless about pretty much everything about the NB identity
relationships, plurality, advice requested
Even if she has access, in some sense, to my partner's experiences and memories, and has access, literally, to the discord account they share, it felt like an invasion of privacy, or at least it disrupted the polite fiction that the space was private.
Is there something I'm missing? Is there a different way of looking at things that I should be aware of?
And what should I do? Should I confront her, and if so, what should I say?
relationships, plurality, advice requested
So, I'm not intimately experienced with plurality, but I have a partner who is plural, and I am friends—but not romantic—with one of their alters. I also have a group chat specifically for my partners, which is a very relaxed, intimate space where I can let my guard down around people I love and trust.
I posted something there, and my partner's alter replied to it, and that made me uncomfortable.
"I have no use for 'before and after' pictures.
I can't remember starting, and
I'm never done."
Unicode’s Japanese codepage contains 12 kanji with no pronunciation or meaning, known as the “ghost characters”. These appear to be the result of an administrative error at the JIS in 1978:
Small fairy from Neptune. Bad decision maker. Pro translator. Won't shut up about magical girls, robots, lesbian romances, and wedding dresses. Eats, sleeps, and breathes. Ⓥ
