Humble just threw up a "Learn to use #Godot !" bundle and I am HOWLING

looks like a rerun, so someone in their marketing division was able to go "I got this" and did the funniest thing by just flipping a switch humblebundle.com/software/ever

speaking of which, one of my favorite "you would never have guessed yourself people would find this 3d printable item useful" i saw a while ago: wheelchair handle spikes.

i remember someone mentioning how useful they were to "keep assholes from grabbing and moving me". it was striking how they said "grabbing me", considering it a part of their body.

If you're starting a new project you should think very carefully about any closed source or proprietary software you use because all of them can pull stuff like Unity is doing at any time.

here's a lil showcase of all of Grey Area's basic movement options!

don't forget to wishlist it on steam and come check it out on September 15!!

I have a weird obsession with old 70s era textbook cover art (I collect them) So I thought it would be fun to try and design my own fake ones!

Check out the Link Cache that @mavica_again started - a simple collection of links -- a great concept that I'm a fan of. It's one solution against a search monopoly that's degrading daily thanks to garbage AI search results. (And as we know, link pages are how the web USED to work before everyone became too reliant on Google.)

I really wish I could teach gamers that they THINK they want a huge open world but what they REALLY want is a well designed AREA of a city, culture, and NPCs.
Open worlds with 100 empty streets and 100 acres of empty hills to run fetch quests will never compare.

The core moral lesson of Star Wars is that Fascists are bad and it's good to shoot them (with lasers), and while the property has plenty of issues, I still think that's a pretty strong basic ethos.

Trail of Cthulhu is a very good RPG! It uses the Gumshoe system which is tailor-made for running investigative stories and procedurals, and its twist is as a classic horror setting. It's really very very good and the Gumshoe system is one of my favorite tabletop systems ever. So definitely check out the bundle!

Single-use vapes are such an environmental hazard when not disposed of correctly; they should never have been allowed on the market.

This week I went to an event where they had this amazing machine that demonstrated the workings of a heat pump: taking a unit of heat from the right side and transferring it to the left side, the beers are cooled and the (vegan) sausages are warmed. I think it's brilliant and should be used to overcome any doubts or resistance to heat pumps, especially in Germany. Maybe they should be mandatory in every beer hall?

Since I've seen a lot of chatter about people switching to #Firefox as Google ramps up the enshitification of #Chrome, let me tell you about a killer feature for people who (a) need multiple accounts on the same websites (eg. devs) or specifically (b) have to use multiple Google accounts.

Firefox has an official addon called Multi Account Containers that lets you trivially set up color coded tabs that have separate sets of cookies. Log into your dev account in one, and your test account in another. Log into your personal #gmail in one and have another tab next to it with your work Gmail. I'm actually not signed in to any Google accounts in most my tabs, I just have containers for the specific tasks I do on Google products.

It'll take you 30 seconds to set up.

#COVID19 #COVID cautious folks:

Carrying a CO2 monitor helps me check how safe the #AirQuality in a space is, and lower or raise my cautions accordingly. (Details: harihareswara.net/posts/2023/m ) Super useful.

I use and like the #Aranet4 #CO2 monitor. The #Aranet 4 is usually USD$249. It's on sale, direct from the manufacturer, till September 17, for $184.35, with free shipping in the US.
