Also, I enjoy gender "Fellow". That's pretty neat, I guess.

HOLY SHIT RFC 6350 IS BEAUTIFUL. RFC 6350 defines the vCard format, and check out these examples for GENDER! "it's complicated" with no marker. I love it.

winter storm, tx...pol?

In case you're curious how Texas' grid is holding up this time around, it seems to be doing much better. ERCOT's reporting plenty of extra overhead and I haven't been hit with any rolling blackouts, so I don't doubt it. Power went out for a little bit, presumably a downed line or something, but it came back on within, like, 30 minutes. So, yeah. Doing better than it was this time last year.

PSA Pronouns

Remember that pronouns and gender are two separate things that, usually aligned, don't have to be aligned to each other. You could be masc-alined and use feminine-aligned pronouns, and vice versa.

Let's try not to police how we use our own pronouns. Our choice of pronouns are a decision that's ours and ours alone to make.

As a fun fact, that quilt in the background was handmade by my grandmother. It's also very cozy :bunhdcomfyhappy: :bunhdheart:

(I mean, yeah, there's a plethora of reasons they can't be trusted with power, but we're just talking about nuking the moon right now. Stay on topic.)

I leave you with this question: why the fuck does anyone think these two countries, countries that wanted to nuke the fucking moon, mind you, deserved any sort of power. Clearly, they couldn't be trusted. Sheesh.

Show thread

It does get a bit better, though, as the Soviets had no plans for if their nuke missed. They just wanted to nuke the moon but if they messed up, that bomb would end up coming back to earth.

So, uh, here's a fun fact for you: both the USA and USSR had plans to, in effect, nuke the moon. Ostensibly, at least in the USA's case, it was for science, but for both, it was also to send a message, presumably about their ability to nuke things that didn't deserve it. Ultimately, neither would actually carry out their plans, because, let's face it, who the fuck nukes the moon?! Why?!

re: Medicines

There are others, of course, but you can read wikipedia for them. For now, I'll leave off. So, yeah. Amphotericin B. A very good drug that you better pray you never need.

re: Medicines

OH! I should probably mention that it does have interactions that make it worse. For instance, flucytosine, an antifungal often used alongside Amphotericin, gets a fuckton more toxic. Various antivirals make it more likely you'll have blood and kidney problems. If you get an infusion of leukocytes for the leukopenia, it'll cause lung damage. And if you're a trans girl on spiro, I hope you don't like having kidneys, because diuretics make renal damage more likely.

Medicines

There's a reason this is a drug of last resort. It's not a fun drug. In fact, of the "drugs of last resort", this one stands out as a particularly brutal affair. Yeah, it might save your life, but it's just as likely to kill you faster. And that's why it's one of my favourites. It's the only thing we still actually use that is so likely to just kill you instead of whatever it was you had in the first place. It's beautiful, and I love it.
