working on my new "theory of dudebro directors": christopher nolan, quentin tarantino, and the coen brothers are by far the most wink to the camera, "did you get it, aren't I clever?" directors out there, so people catch stuff that seems deep but is ultimately not much more than a neat little joke. it's a filmmaking style that flatters the audience, so dudes who want to think they're smart and show off will catch those references and call it film analysis
