I mean, I say rant, but I explicit said my rage died down so it was more of a mildly irritated ramble. Still, got to complain about problems in Searle's arguments.

Nonsense vaguely related to my rant from earlier

"If it walks like a human and talks like a human, it probably is a human...unless it's a computer in which case OH SHIT THAT'S A THINKING MACHINE BOIIIIIII!!!"

Hot take

The Chinese Room argument against computer sentience doesn't sit well with me for many reasons, but first and foremost is the fact that Searle's reply to criticism seems to be "Ah, but if you look at [thing indistinguishable from his original room], you'll find the man doesn't speak Chinese, therefore I am very smart."

Remember a couple years ago when I ranted about John Searle and the Chinese Room? Well, guess what class I'm taking this semester? That's right! Philosophy! And guess what came up in the chapter about ontology? That's right! Searle and the Chinese Room! Oh, but it gets better. One of the prompts for this week's discussion post was about if anything made us angry. Guess who got to rant about how much they hate John Searle! So, that was fun. Shame I don't have this class in-person...

I'm just saying, having an epilepsy warning is all well and good, but maybe consider just not having all the flashing to begin with. Even for people without photosensitive epilepsy, it's not particularly pleasant to watch rapidly flashing colours

Blood (contained)

Been too long since I've done this! It's your periodic reminder to give blood if you're able!

In case you were curious about what I got thrifting today, it wasn't much. A CD-ROM copy of the original You Don't Know Jack and a Wii Balance Board to use with Dolphin (batteries not included). Not much, but fun little things to find anyways

Check out this wireless router! Still in the original shrink wrap!

(In case you're unaware, that version is set in the criminal underworld, and features gratuitous violence and sex. It's not exactly...ah...school appropriate, shall we say?)
