Beto's latest hot take on gun control highlights how you can't really trust a liberal politican to get things right.
The problem with mass shooting and how it always seems to be a white or white-passing reactionary with a God complex is not one of the existence and legality of guns, but a problem of how gun ownership is a commodified privilege that interacts with how privation is modulated via race, gender, sexuality, religion and class.
Yes, I am saying that gun violence in America is a problem of whiteness, and this is something you will almost never hear a male politician touch upon. Letting the NRA run the narrative of gun ownership and gun rights isn't going to make anyone safer, it just shifts the monopoly of violence to favour cis white males.
If you really want to see behind the veil of reactionary rhetoric and why reactionaries cling on to their guns so much, agree with them, and state that you think that the solution would be to socialize gun ownership and gun training so that even poor people, women, trans people, and people of colour can easily arm themselves if they so desire.
I am very much pro-gun, but the fact that I share this position with a bunch of Trump-loving reactionary scumbags pisses me off to no end. We all know that they don't give a shit about protecting the constitution, it's all about preserving their position as the top dogs of society, and they're willing to use deadly force against anyone who challenges them on that. They can fuck off into the sun. Pink pistols or bust!
