Rediscovering the joy of having a folder labelled "Games" in my downloads folder because the games I'm playing aren't on Steam

One of the games I just downloaded and rediscovered the joy in is Trackmania Nations Forever. It's free to play, not very graphically taxing, and basically an auto racing speedrun game. It was basically perfect for me back then. And, well, it's still *really fucking fun*. Like, holy shit. I can see myself getting addicted to this once again, just trying to shave hundredths of a second off a time to get a gold medal. OH IT'S BEAUTIFUL. Sure, it looks like a game out of 2003, but it's fun so 🤷

I think I'm gonna spend the last days of the decade playing some of the games I used to play on my old Toshiba Satellite. That thing was okay, but it was over 5 years old when I was using it back in 2013. It's Radeon X1200 couldn't exactly handle most of the games I wanted to play. So, I found other, less graphically taxing games to play.

2020 is the year we unabashedly like the things we like regardless of what other people think of them

I love this game. I absolutely adore this game. It is the game my inner child has always wanted and it. is. glorious.

I've solved my performance issues under Windows. It turns out that Soeedstep was fucked up. Disabling it has *massively* improved performance. Like, fucking, night and day. Suddenly it's running so fucking smoothly, Clone Hero gets around 400 fps with 8x MSAA, and I'm willing to bet I could actually get Sonic Forces to run reasonably well now. It's beautiful.

UPDATE: The CPU is problematic. I don't know why W7 hates my 4th gen Core i7, but it does, so, I'll have to sort that mess out

Things I don't understand: Anthro non-mammals (reptiles, amphibians, etc.) with tits.

I mean, I do get it. I love me some sexy big tit dragon ladies. But, like, I also don't. Only mammals have tits. Why does that lizard have tits?

I know correlation isn't causation, but I'm pretty sure that hard faults are behind those freezes (p < 0.05) because it's having to read from a 5400 RPM drive (p < 0.01)

I'm currently trying to move my Windows install onto my SSD, which should hopefully make hard faults less painful, because I'm pretty sure those are why my computer keeps freezing up. There seems to be a strong correlation between freezes, hard faults, and hard drive access, so it's probably choking trying to read from the 5400 RPM part of my SSHD. *Hopefully*, the SSD fixes that, and I can figure out if there are any other things bottlenecking Windows.

Did you know cloning a hard drive then writing that image to a different hard drive takes a long time?

I have been doing this since, like 14:00. I have been here waiting for 6 hours now. It's gonna be another hour *at least*.

Don't get me wrong. You can find similar microscopes going for a lot more. But this one is in *horrible* condition. It's gonna need a lot of restoration work if it wants to be worth $20, much less more.

For Christmas, my grandparents gave me an old microscope and lab set from, like, the 50's. My grandfather directly remarked that it was "worth more than when it was bought."

This isn't to say there aren't things that shouldn't be CW'd, regardless of how you feel about it. You may not feel stupid deserves a CW, and that's fine. But regardless of how you feel about a slur like "tranny", it needs a CW. Same with all manner of things. NSFW stuff, for instance. Or politics (generally). Violence. Stuff that might generally be upsetting, you know?
