I had multiple counselors in high school, and I would tell them, "My sister ran away from home. My other sister tried to kill me. I had to talk my mother down from slashing her wrists" and they acted like it was the Self Esteemers episode of Daria instead, idk, doing anything to address my obvious PTSD symptoms or reporting me to CPS.

Me telling people my adoptive family is very abusive and violent at age 12: Haha, yeah, sure. Ok. You seem to be very introverted, let's work on that, huh?
Me telling people my adoptive family was very abusive and violent at age 35: Oh, that's awful! You went through so much! Why didn't anyone do anything?
@Sapphicgiraffic @caymanwent counterpoint: humans contain no holes and your intestines are actually an interface with the outside world. i was taught this in medschool and i shit u not it is 100% accurate
being treated 'like a man' is different from, and worse than, being treated *as* a man, and that difference is perhaps nowhere more keenly expressed than in relationships between cis women and transmisogyny-exempt 'woman aligned' people, on the one hand, and the nonbinary, transmisogyny-constrained partners whom they treat 'like a man' on the other;
unless it is more starkly articulated in the relationships between cis women and transmisogyny-exempt 'woman aligned' parents and their nonbinary, transmisogyny-constrained children.
it is inaccurate to say that cis feminism 'struggles with' this dynamic; on the contrary, cis feminism is broadly employed as the ideological justification for mis-treating someone 'like a man'.
@melissasage "AOL has no reasonably explainable reason for keeping AIM running when you're not online, but its a part of this trend of apps that don't close unless you take the effort to kill them."
