antiblackness, police violence

I just discovered Fables of Faubus, a little ditty Charles Mingus wrote about the white supremacists of the late 50s: youtube.com/watch?v=QT2-iobVcd

For similar reasons, Smiths lyrics are a whole lot less funny and clever in 2019

Genius wants to claim the song is satirical, which might be believable if we haven't had 30 years since of Rivers Cuomo behaving like an ass AND writing other songs about being creepy towards women.

I could listen to "No One Else" and say, "This is fine. Just a perfectly normal song about hating your girlfriend and wanting a perfectly compliant passive replacement".

That's where I was at.

And even I could figure out the crappy pagan books I was reading were absolute bullshit.

A lot of the pagan books I read as a teenager were so sexist, racist, and antisemitic, that even my uneducated unwoke ass could see that they were bullshit. And I listened to Weezer.

last night i had a dream where a new competitor to duckduckgo came up, goosegoosestop

I'm not a sapiosexual because I don't want to flatter my crushes and exes that much.

9volt @ bird spot is asking us to pace ourselves on Joker discourse but you know, considering it has apparently started domestic terrorism threats it's pretty hard to ramp down from there twitter.com/9_volt_/status/117

Does anyone have that meme-image with different cyberpunk and steampunk derivatives sorted by decade?

It usually puts cyberpunk in our near-future, despite cyberpunk being "80's/90's near future".

Fun fact: Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep (the book behind Bladerunner) took place in 1991. And that was 23 years in the future when the book was written. 1991 is now 28 years in the past.

Cyberpunk is an alternate-history genre by now.

(I still would like that image)

@Bashabez5 Facebook's internal standards leaked a few years back and they're fucking wild. basically any generalization whatsoever is counted, but anything that gives even the most asinine plausible deniability is OK (e.g. "I don't hate all black people! just the children")

"We are working on a platform based on blockchain technology, which will have its own cryptocurrency called the Atari Token."

Just. Make. Normal. Hats.

Speaking of which, whoever owns Atari right now should just make it a fashion brand already. The only thing people want from Atari is the logo.

You don't even need to do something foolish like make a speaker hat.

Does anyone remember the Atari speaker hat?

No, because it was a bad idea.

when are the 'retro-inspired' games gonna do mode 7 games instead of all these 8-bitish games

I have a thrift store hoodie the inside of which is lined with brand names and logos, such as Skype and Bing.

When I was in Seattle the thrift stores had stuff like Microsoft board games and Microsoft dress socks

@mavica It is! It was a promotion between Microsoft and Sapporo beer, specifically the Sapporo Black variety.

"Gamers and a wacky mascot character on a couch" webcomics are solidly old enough as a genre to have retro nerd appeal.
