Part of it is I know a lot of people whose Boomer relatives live out in suburbs where you CANNOT leave the house without a car. That makes me very uncomfortable. To be stuck in a place and be unable to go for a walk or catch a bus home if I don't want to be there anymore, or even if you just want to buy a soda, you can't because they don't have a corner store, they don't have a bodega. They have a Walmart 15 miles away. You step outside, there's a highway with a deer crossing.

Thinking about how uncomfortable I feel when I have to participate in nuclear family activities, like hang out with someone's parents for a holiday or visiting a family.

Even with my own family, I feel like an outsider because I was separated from them when I was a child.

I much prefer being able to do my own thing, up to and including being alone, because when you're alone on a holiday, the whole city is quiet and you can walk around without anyone getting in your way or bothering you.

When I first got into hanging with techies, people'ld be inviting me rock climbing, inviting me to safe rooms. Tech people have a death wish. I had an escape room growing up, it was called my adoptive family's house. Oh wouldn't it be fun to be locked in a room? Hell no.
