"Punching Left" / Online "revolutionary" discourse

How am I supposed to take internet leftists seriously if they can't even convince each other and their close friends/family to get out of walled gardens? That is a pretty minimal task compared to say: literally organizing anything.

Of course I only expect whining about how it's too hard in the replies and reactionary responses disavowing good libratory technology because admitting change needs to happen temporarily makes you a hypocrite in the current comment thread. The internet revolutionary's program is whatever makes you the most ideologically pure with the least effort.

Maybe we shouldn't abolish capitalism then, since that's not what we're doing now, and we shouldn't be seen as hypocritical of course.

It's always "too hard", not eating meat, not using blatant spyware, not learning to avoid harmful language because it's "too complicated".

Everybody has different levels of "doable" on different days, and change never happens overnight, but don't decide what can't be done by just limiting yourselves to symbolic actions instead of possibilities of meaningful change, in whatever form that may be.

There can't be any revolution if all you do is talk but you never try

@lunaterra not familiar with the phrase "walled gardens", what is that in reference to? O_o

"Punching Left" / Online "revolutionary" discourse

@solarpunkagorism @lunaterra While internet "pure theorist" is an issue, this is an awfully weird grouping of multiple things together under the same banner of what you consider "praxis":
"not eating meat, not using blatant spyware, not learning to avoid harmful language because it's 'too complicated'" wut?

"Punching Left" / Online "revolutionary" discourse

@solarpunkagorism @lunaterra
A. Since when is veganism a "revolutionary act"?
B. "Avoid harmful languages" is good but not really any more revolutionary than spreading awareness.
C. "Not using blatant spyware" is a consumer choice, similar to veganism.

@solarpunkagorism @lunaterra
In short it's really hard to see what you're describing as "possibilities of meaningful change". It would have made more sense if you say "encourage people to unionize" or "feed the poor" or "create local mutual support program with friends and neighbors"?

"Punching Left" / Online "revolutionary" discourse

@danishcookies @solarpunkagorism "consumer choices" involving free shit are just "choices" (I made a long post about "no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism" a while ago so I'm not re-treading that here). But the point of the examples is that they are all trivial decision which don't even involve much organizing or even any, yet I get replies when I talk about them from leftists that typically amount to excuses for not trying on really basic shit to seem ideologically pure. If really basic shit concerning improving your habits to make the world a better place is out of the question I find it hard to genuinely believe in the same people actually organizing any kind of community for the same purpose.

"Punching Left" / Online "revolutionary" discourse

@lunaterra @solarpunkagorism I think the general conscientious about them is that these life style decisions are trivial and not impactful and focusing on policing people about it is mostly liberal facade of trying to get a sense of accomplishment for little effort?

@lunaterra @solarpunkagorism Like it's kind of funny to make such a big deal about "not using plastic straws" when the core issue that needs to be fixed is consumerism as a culture and a part of the capitalistic system?
