venezuela, nation-wide blackout, long post

at 5pm on thursday, everything went dark. we didn't care much for it cause we're kinda use to it. it's usually just for a few minutes or hours. we didn't know how bad it was. by saturday morning people were desperate

no water, no electricity, no phone calls, no internet, no food

the electric company released a statement saying that all was caused by a lack of proper maintenance of the plant, they warned this was gonna happened but no one listened. the government, as always, blame their "enemies". it was an attack they said

everything went back to kinda normal this normal but most cellphones still have no signal, including mine. most businesses are still closed and some were looted during the weekend. I heard that over 80 people died in hospitals including newborns

last night I went out to protest and we were received by the guards and their pigs with rubber bullets and tear gas

I showed up for work just so I could get online and gather some info, I'll share what I can find

I'm ok, but damn, this was one rough weekend

venezuela, nation-wide blackout, birdsite thread

"I went to the heart of Venezuela’s transmission system in Guarico to try to find out what’s going on with the grid. Here’s why partial blackouts are unfortunately likely to persist for a while. I sincerely hope I’m wrong."

prison is abuse

@gendertreyf slavery was never abolished, it was merely codified in the thirteenth amendment

prison is abuse

@gendertreyf Which is absolutely absurd because they make more than enough money to cover infrastructure costs. It's 100% about control and supremacy over the person.

Fun activity! CWing shitposts that contain content that would warrant a CW in other context.

It's fun for the whole family!

Honey bees (especially European honey bees) are NOT endangered. They are domesticated livestock that are introduced to foreign eco-system and is actually part of what endanger other bees species (carrying varroa mites and other pathogens).

Just your daily reminder that most bees are solitary and also have important roles in pollination(which honey bees can't replace) and just in general bio-diversity. These native and solitary bees are the ones you should be concerned about. You can help by pushing the reduction of Neonicotinoid pesticide used in agriculture (which disproportionately affect native bees compared to honey bees) and build bee hotels:

journalist situation in croatia

in #croatia journalists are targeted by a new law (since january 2019) that allows anyone to claim to resieve heartache by them.
politicans and institutions are the ones making the most use of it. police is enforcing the law and by that silencing disents. Croatia has a right wing goverment.

violence

The only time I'll talk friendly with a capitalist is after their disembodied head is in the basket.

the guiding tenet of socialism is "from each according to their ability, to each according to their need"

george clinton famously sang, "we need the funk, gotta have that funk"

therefore, under socialism it will be of the utmost importance to find people who have the funk and give them control of the means of funk production
