@garfiald @hanny i'm gonna confess here that i actually became a leftist because of the memes

@hanny people are gonna oversimplify and misread theory no matter what. they have done for as long as theory has existed (every heard of uh socrates or whatever his name was). if it gets people to look up the actual ideas and get to think about them that seems to me to be a good thing.

I'm sure plenty of you have something like "read more theory" on your to-do list or New Year's resolutions. I'd be very surprised if this was the same on the other side.

Compare that to leftist spaces, where people are constantly worried that they might not know enough, constantly working to learn from each other, if not complaining that others in the community don't know as much as they should.

Simply put, no-one picks up a book by a conservative writer hoping to learn something.

It doesn't matter if Jordan Peterson doesn't use any actual evidence, if his credentials are bogus, or if he isn't internally consistent nor ever actually puts forward any ideas. None of these things are important, because the function he serves is to reassure people that the things they feel are rational and that they don't have anything to worry about. This is also why conservative writing often veers explicitly into self-help, both are there to make people feel better

The reason what few conservative intellectuals there are rarely have anything close to a coherent worldview is that the purpose of conservative writing is to create and spread rhetoric which justifies people's biases towards power. The point is not to figure out what to do, or what is happening, or to convince anyone. The point is to keep pushing people in the direction they are already headed for.
