amazing that its ten years later and weirdo nerds are still hollering to audit the fed

Show thread

heard there’s a “yellow vest” protest organized by god knows who in NYC and they are going to protest the federal reserve 😑
The same federal reserve trump blames for an economy he’s actively sabotaging.
This is how the right wing hijacks popular movements

@lynnesbian cultural Marxism is when you put women in Ghostbusters. Societal Leninism is when you put black people in star wars

why the fuck is there a bunch of white men debating whether or not "cultural leninism" has gone too far in my mentions
this has been going on for TWO DAYS

at this point, the only logical conclusion is that being on mastodon makes you charming and good-looking

“Ultima Thule” is actually a nickname – the little frostball is still officially called (486958) 2014 MU69. And it’s so far away that we barely know anything about it.

So far from the Sun that sunlight is scarcely brighter than starlight, it takes 295 years to complete a single orbit. It was only discovered 4 years ago.

Ultima Thule is only 30km in diameter and is currently 6.614 billion km away. The fact that we can send a spacecraft to it so accurately still amazes me.

The New Horizons spacecraft is due to fly past Ultima Thule, an icy Kuiper Belt Object, at around 5:30 am on January 1st. It’ll scream past at ridiculous speed, and send back the most distant photographs ever taken of anything anywhere.

It’s so far away, that even though those transmissions travel at the speed of light, it’ll take 6 hours before they reach Earth.

I think this sounds like a good start to 2019!

Say what you will about Twitter, but I still use it for the same reasons I’ve always used it. One of those reasons is getting live commentary from scientists as a robot hurtles towards a tiny, icy world on the edge of the solar system at over 10 miles per second.

the siberian land bridge theory of how native americans arrived in america is false and goes against archaeological evidence and also native oral histories. according to most conventional sources and natives themselves, they have existed in the americas for at least 14,000 years (earlier than recorded history) with native histories dating back further.

Ok, ok, I’m done geeking out about Kuiper Belt Objects and space robots.

FOR NOW.
