Death, announcement

Elfi here again. This will be the last post on this account.

On May 19th, 16:53 PDT, Deadrose ceded her battle against cancer and passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family. She will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace, mom.

Long post, cancer

Deadrose's life expectancy is now weeks at most. Her friends and family here are spending time with her and making sure she's comfortable, while assuring any last requests are fulfilled. She sends her love to all of her friends and family who couldn't be here with her in turn, and appreciates the care and support sent her way in turn.

Long post, cancer

Hi, this is @elfi posting on behalf of my mother, to let everyone who followed her know what has been going on.

Last October, Deadrose was diagnosed with stage 4 peritoneal carcinomatosis, which has an average prognosis of five months from diagnosis. She is tenacious though, and fought her hardest to beat it, but treatment did not improve things considerably, and after seven months it is end-stage, leaving her hospitalized and bedridden. 1/?

Choose a traveling companion!

@indi You pretty much have to go to pro places to get stuff like negatives or contact sheets these days. This is why we picked up a bunch of darkroom stuff off freecycle a few years ago. We just need to find a spot we can make dark enough for enlarging. B/W only at the moment, there's no way we can safety a color darkroom right now.

@porsupah I'm feeling much better in many ways, although I have *no* stamina to speak of. But my doctor says the goal is to keep me healthy enough for long enough that the chemo will shrink the tumors and they can do surgery, so I'll put up with them not letting me lose even a little weight :P

I haven't been posting a lot lately, because I've been stuck in the hospital more than I've been home. Mostly trouble with small bowel obstruction. As a result I'm now on a liquid diet and getting most of my calories in overnight IV bags, not much fun, but at least I'm not dropping weight like crazy.

@indi Yeah, I'm right. So you'll probably need to go beg somewhere that develops movie film. It needs a special cleaning stage that other positive films don't.

@indi Seattle Filmworks, IIRC, spooled 35mm movie film for use in 35mm cameras. So it uses whatever positive process movie film uses. Let me check with my SO though.

@rcadden Try Vivaldi. Chromium base, careful control of your data, fine-grained adjustments or use right out of the
box.

My friend Celty is currently homeless and has a #MutualAidRequest for funds to help her stay safe and secure permanent housing. Her plan is to sleep in her car, but she hopes for funding to have “some nights” in motels.

She’s a disabled trans woman with limited mobility, making her vulnerable. Personally I hate the idea of her sleeping in her car at all.

If you’re able, please help. gofundme.com/f/celtyislove

re: ennui, alc ref, hospital talk

@porsupah I was sprouting a weird facial appurtenance as a result of the NG tube, and it prevented me from effectively masking.

I was doing the fluorouracil myself, but they've changed my regimen to other drugs with a more general approach. So I know the fun of wearing the pump around for 2 days. We'll see if these new drugs kickstart things back into gear.

re: ennui, alc ref

@porsupah That sounds like a cidery/brewery to have fun at! I can only imagine what our beer fridge(s) would look like after a trip to there. We've got one cidery over here (on the island I call home) that makes perry with Asian pears, and manages to capture that amazing crispness.

Not that I'm drinking right now, this past week (and some) has been a pretty rough one health-wise. Currently I've got Covid, caught it in the hospital last week.

re: ennui, alc ref

@porsupah AFAIK Brown Shugga is still making its seasonal runs. Cider had a little problem with the people promoting it hyping the "gluten-free" aspect, and the amount of mass-market cider that's just sugary alco-pops. One of our fave cideries just went under as a result. They did some brilliant ciders *sigh*.

re: ennui, alc ref

@porsupah We see St. Bernardus over here with somewhat more regularity. We finally found a place that gives us a chance to get some of our Belgian favourites shipped to us, avoiding the problem of the East Coast buying the entire allotment before we even have a chance. It costs an arm & a leg of course, but those are the breaks, I guess. If there are any west coast/PNW US brews you want, maybe we can work out a trade.

re: ennui, alc ref

@porsupah Always preferred Westvleteren 8 myself. Though it's bitterly hard to get any of their stuff over here.
